Sorry, I can't help myself when it comes to alliteration. Anyways, here's a quick trailer for the Watchmen: The End is Nigh game, showing off a bit of action and attacking for your nitpicking pleasure.
You can argue over how the game is going to be story-wise and whether you can even put the characters in this type of situation, but I'll gladly accept them attempting to tell the Watchmen story in a medium like this. There's a chance that they'll be able to reveal a new part of the character's mindset through this. Let's just wait and see.
Now, gameplay-wise, nitpick away. The combat system looks slightly worrisome to me, because as you combo one enemy, the others just stand around like dolts, waiting to be raped in the face -- this is a situation that's always befuddled me. I wonder why they won't just beat on me while I'm killing their friend. It'd certainly save their lives. Is it just me, or does this irritate anyone else from a logical standpoint within the story?

Personally I think this look o.k. and might even play well but it's still unnecessary.
i have gay friends that would die laughing at this - its just way to gay. they look like they should be manning a "pride" parade float.
take a look at the movie poster the last time they tried to make this film.
mel gibson AND edward norton as eddie blake (whoever he is - a transformer apparently - a really lame transformer)
ralph fiennes and michael douglas trying to out gay each other on who has the gayest costume...
its hilarious...and it will soon be coming to theater near you...to suck. previous director tried twice (1989 and 1999) and gave up and let the rights pass back to the owner. movie has suck written all over it.
but i'm SURE the game is going to kick ass...

That aside...eh. I'm not too excited for it, or for the movie. Watchmen is probably my favorite Graphic novel of all time though. So there.
With Sin City and The Spirit showing great ways to evolve comics into a cinematic environment, I think the potential is definitely there.
@ fraunkd:
please... just read the graphic novel and then hush.
we're just getting around to ruining it in other media now?
Game designers fucking suck.
@fraunkd .. most superheroes costumes are pretty 'gay' don't you think. all a tad bit too tight around the chest and crotch!?
anyway, don't get me wrong here. i dont have a problem with video game violence... in fact, i quite enjoy it, with 'manhunt' somehow being one of my all-time favorites and im looking forward to giving you all a good hiding on SFIV.
But,
this video seems to revolve around the fact that you can smash a guys face in. This is a fun thing to do in a video game. but, i get a bad feeling that 'watchmen' is going to be all about smashing guys faces in, pretty shit concept for a game these days don't you think? The book was really intelligent and it would be nice if the game was too. Although, its likely to be a movie tie-in. :(
Im putting my bet on a 3D streets of rage. i hope to be proved wrong!
rant over
What a lack of imagination in terms of game design.
And fraunkd, The Watchmen is one of the greatest comics ever made. Stop being so afraid of something looking "gay" because you're insecure. You come off as immature and, well, stupid.
One.
I can't believe how many people say this looks "gay" based on one trailer. Give it a few more trailer, if you still don't like how it's looking, then try out the inevitable demo. Don't count it out because you feel that nobody can do a Watchmen game correctly. That's fucking stupid, to be blunt about it.
With that established, you interpret this into how the characters move. Now, look at game-Rorschach. He prances like a fairy compared to comic-Rorschach. Nite Owl and Rorschach are pretty much good-Batman and evil-Batman, respectively. Nite Owl cracks jokes, uses martial arts, and has lots of gadgets. Rorschach is crazy, uses his environment in lieu of gadgets, and is (Spoiler Alert) practically a serial killer.
Drawing from these conclusions, Nite Owl looks fine, if a bit too fast, but Rorschach looks really weird, pulling off that stuff. My suggestion would be revamping the combat system for him so it feels slower and stronger, like superhero Condemned. I'd rather stomp into a fight like I'm going to kill everyone in the room, rather than skip in there to fight people like an angry ballerina. Just saying.
haha, i both love & fully agree with your closing comments. Although I dont own a 360, I love watching the trailers and adverts of Gears of War 2. The reason being, the sheer weight and stomp of the characters. I love batman because he's a wall and who could forget the final acts of Bioshock. But, then there is a place for the angry ballerina too. Samus being my favorite and even though the graphics are minimal, N+ perfectly portrays the weight of the character.
I think your right in pointing out the importance of this :)
