We here at Destructoid HQ have just about been inundated by the never-ending torrent of Bigs 2 media from 2K Sports -- but hey, at least it’s not just screenshots this time! The video after the jump shows off a smattering of gameplay from the various minigames that The Bigs 2 offers, as well as the beloved Home Run Derby mode.

I’m not quite sure how some of them relate to baseball -- I noticed some Mets players on what appears to be a balance beam, and then there’s a shot of two Cubs players riding on a zip-line. But hey, as long as it’s fun, I won’t mind. Plus, I’ll probably be spending most of my time with Home Run Pinball, taking out Times Square billboards and glitzy Vegas lights.

You’ll also find nine screenshots of the Wii version -- the first we’ve seen of it -- in the gallery below. They look, well, typical for a Wii game, I suppose. Here’s hoping 2K doesn’t go overboard with the waggle on the Wii. On an unrelated note, the image of Joba Chamberlain above is framed almost identically to a shot from the PS3/360 versions (except the Wii screenshot is at Fenway Park instead of Yankee Stadium). Putting more Yankees on the Destructoid home page is always a good thing!

For more info on The Bigs 2, which will be out for PS3, 360, Wii, and PS2 on July 7th, hit up the game’s official Web site -- or check out our 2K Sports tag for a whole bunch of Bigs-related posts.

Yeah, but its 2K sports....they are just about the only ones that get it right (if only madden's stranglehold on football would end!). "We" (gamers with more eclectic tastes) shouldn't forget that sports games have played a very important role in highlighting this industry as a mainstream pastime. Additionally, sports titles represent a driving force for motion capture and high end graphic fidelity. Yearly rehashes aside, there have been more than a few gems within the genre.

@GameraTheGreat: 2K Sports' sim baseball games have been pretty shitty for a while now (e.g., MLB 2K9). But yes, I agree in principle. Sports games are awesome! See MLB 09 The Show and NHL 09, for example...

Thanks! I've heard alot about NHL 09 and have thought to check it out...Truth be told, I am only in it for the NFL and the occasional hoops game. EA broke my heart years ago when I realized NFL 2K5 was the last outing (I bought All Pro but it wasn't the same, although I still have/play it while I traded in Madden09). 2k's animations are spot on (madden is still playing catch up), but their graphic presentation has fallen behind not having the deep pockets EA does. I actually believe that EA's bid for Take 2 at face value fronted Rockstar, but the feather very well may have been 2k and the Visual Concepts team. Had EA gotten that talent under their wing, they would have become critically undisputed in the sports world.

@GameraTheGreat: Definitely read up on Madden NFL 10. EA Tiburon is introducing some game-changing gameplay improvements that seem like they'll make for a very realistic football sim.

Outstanding, should make for some great multiplayer. Now if only EA can put out a decent version of NFL Street for the 360.
