The adventure that began with a (not securely) locked case will finally end this weekend, when I attend the FEAR 2 lab on Warner Bros the Armacham Corporation's dime.

For reasons I'm not entirely sure of, they're going to be streaming the whole event via webcam from the official Armacham site. I'll start playing at 1 pm EST this Saturday.

Since I can't imagine anything more boring than watching a bunch of unkempt game bloggers sitting in front of monitors silently playing a first-person shooter, I have to assume Monolith thinks the game is reeeeeally scary. Presumably, myself and the other invitees are expected to jump and shriek at every scripted sequence. Well, I don't buy it. Horror games don't scare me, and I only jumped once during the first FEAR (if you're curious, when you're going down the ladder and your character automatically looks back up and Alma's just standing there staring at you).

So, yeah. Either I'm right and it'll be kinda dull, or I'm wrong and it'll be hilarious, or they're going to be doing a bunch of wacky-ass viral marketing ARG crap where actors pretend like Armacham is hypnotizing us with the game or something.

Which would be fun, in an embarrassing kind of way.

Wow, you don't sound excited at all to be going. Why not make it more fun? Bring your own pranks/props.

Always with the random alt-text. It's like secret little gems hidden in articles.

i swear, the jump-out-of-your-chair moment you mentioned from FEAR is also my scariest game moment. it was a little cheap, but i jumped and shouted when it hit me. well scripted moments like that are the backbone of any good video game scare.
when i read this article, i had to comment and let you know that you weren't alone on the alma-ladder sequence. scary stuff!

good luck

@brainderailment: until they scream rape for no reason and you're the closest adult in the vicinity. That's scary.

the scariest bit is when your going up the ladder and theres a vent in the wall behind the ladder and as you go past it grown-up Alma (the clawy naked one) reaches out and grabs at you. That was scary.

I must just startle easily, but I can remember a couple of times when I jumped while playing the original FEAR. The one part I remember the most was on the second mission, there is a small alcove with a health pack and as you turned to get it, the light casts your shadow against the wall. Once you moved closer to it, Alma runs behind you, so the shadow pops out of nowhere.

Anyways, I hope the event ends up being fun and not a complete waste of time.
