Watch people blow up in this new Showdown Effect trailer

10:00 PM on 03.04.2013

Showdown Effect is ready to launch this week, and in celebration, Paradox has provided us with a new trailer titled "Le Ballet of Death."

Odds are you've never heard of Showdown Effect, and since it hasn't gotten any publicity or buzz, I don't blame you. Basically, it's a PC game that lets you relive glorious cheesy '90s area action in a 2D arena based setting with up to eight players.

Our review will be coming shortly after launch, so stay tuned if you're on the fence.

You should really be playing The Showdown Effect

When I reviewed The Showdown Effect back in March, I absolutely loved it. Arrowhead are just great at making silly, fun titles. But within my review was a nagging doubt, the worry that it wouldn't be able to maintain the nece...more

Review: The Showdown Effect

As the elderly, yet oddly toned kung-fu monk decapitated my time-traveling, identity-losing hero-with-nothing-to-lose for the fifth time in as many minutes, I couldn't really be blamed for impotently throwing my mouse at the ...more

The Showdown Effect scratches that '90s multiplayer itch

I was sliding across the floor -- or more precisely, my dapper, gentleman cyborg warrior was sliding across the floor -- though I wasn't sure why exactly. The reasons didn't matter, as sliding is simply fun. I slid right thro...more

The Showdown Effect is back with a new trailer

The next game from the studio behind Magicka seemed intriguing knowing who was making it and that there would be movie-cliché humor. If there's anything to get me to play a multiplayer sidescrolling shooter, it's prob...more

Preview: Showdown Effect promises 2D action movie clichés

While at GDC, I had a very early first-look at a game called The Showdown Effect which revolved around playing as an action movie stereotype. What I was shown was more of a very early prototype (almost still even an...more

Marvelous-looking metroidvania Ori and the Blind Forest pushed to 2015

Delays aren't usually all that interesting as a topic of discussion, but in the case of Ori and the Blind Forest, a revised release date is an excuse to further cement its name in your mind. Ori is a tough platform adventure ...more

Review: Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal

While Sonic Boom on the Wii U has its issues, there are also some redeeming qualities. Co-op is enjoyable, the platforming is pretty fun, and the 2D sections aren't bad. With a few more months in the oven and more polish, it could have ultimately been a decent Sonic title. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the 3DS version of Sonic Boom. There's almost nothing redeeming about it.more
