Last week, Electronic Arts dropped the demo for DICE's Mirror's Edge on the gaming world and the response has been mostly positive.
The snippet of gameplay from the demo gives you a nice taste of what the game is all about, letting you run through the game's opening training area and the prologue, "The Edge." I've been running through the final version of Mirror's Edge for a little over a week now, and while I can't give my final thoughts until November 11, I am allowed to talk about some of the game's earlier levels.
But why talk about it when I can just show you? After the jump, you'll find video of the game's first full chapter, "Flight." Making this video was stressful. When you're nailing your jumps and your slides, Mirror's Edge looks elegant and smooth; when you're not, well ... you just look like an idiot.
Needless to say, no one wants to see me jumping off of buildings or running into walls. Some editing has been done to the video, mostly to pull out some of the story and a loading screen or two. But mostly, editing was done because I make a really crappy runner.

She should jog on the spot when waiting in the elevator, that would just be plain old fun comedy stuff right there.
Also, the sounds of your body hitting the pavement below sounds pretty nasty and I've heard it MANY times in the demo.... :)
One letter review?: Y or N?
Protip: Jumping up a flight of stairs is faster than running :)
I really need the PC demo ASAP!
I uh, umm ... November 11!
(Heh. Sorry.)
Ps. thanks for this video anyways, it's a great insight. Looking forward to read what you think but I think I'm too in love with the whole thing to pass it up now.
SAD
They could've just called this game "RUN!". So intense.
Looks pretty awesome, just for being the first level.
Waiting ofr this title ^^
but i have to wait more for PC game u.u
I'll wait for the PC version. Tried the demo on both PS3 and 360 and it's as silly as trying to play Portal with a controller.
really, i have just eat and i feel dizy.
I'll agree that the game has a lot of hype behind it, but I have no idea what you're talking about regarding the visuals. The first trailer (as far as I know) was shown last May; you can see it here.
The video says "This is in-game footage." And yes, the game does look like that. There's no obvious trickery there. I'm not sure what you're talking about, Ron. Get your eyes checked.
I've been playing the final game for over a week, Ron, and I don't see these little "jaggies" you're talking about. The above video was (unfortunately) taken from an SD source and then uploaded to the Internets, which makes it lose even more quality. You know this.
If you're seeing something on your television that I'm not, you have super eagle eyes, and I never should have doubted you. But regardless, there was nothing misleading about their original video, and if there's any loss in quality, it's so slight that's hardly worth mentioning ... much less having a heart attack about it on the Internet.
And contrary to the PA comic, the mirror's edge demo didn't give me motion sickness (while other games, such as half life 2 and portal on 360, have).
PC demo please!
So do they pull off the first-person controls smoothly or can it be a bit awkward at times?
Play the demo or watch the video above. The answer if you won't do either of those is yes, they did pull of the controls well.
The one fear I have right now is that every level will have a helicopter running and gunning after me. That's going to get old...fast.
Why so Super Cereal about this? Just let people enjoy the game, if they want to. If you don't like it, fine. But we "get it" and we love it. You don't need to go on a crusade to prove to everyone that it sucks, or something.
@Nick
Was that the ENTIRE first level? Because that was really short for an ENTIRE first level.
This has made me even more exited I was afraid the short demo would be the same length.
Will play the demo.
