While the Spike Video Game Awards may have been the official reveal of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, but Jimmy Fallon scored the first public gameplay demonstration. On Monday night's episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Naughty Dog's Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra appeared to show off what they've been working on for the last year.
Destructoid has seen Uncharted 3, but we're sworn to secrecy for a while yet. So, until we can deliver our preview, watch Jimmy play and awkwardly fanboy out.

I always hear that he's supposed to be a gamer... but anytime I see him actually play a video game, he's fucking horrible. You think after playing video games for a while you would develop at least a little bit of skill!
How annoying is it when a bunch of kids think you have to immediately be amazing at a video game to be a gamer?
man I hate you guys sometimes. Fucking whining 'elitists' with probably little skill.
Hell, Uncharted is the only reason why I'd buy a PS3. I know Uncharted 3 will be more of the same (to a tee), but hell, if it delivers the same kind of popcorn blockbuster fun and great natural performances, then I'm not going to complain. The fact I had more fun playing U2 than watching Indy 4 in the cinema says it all really.
As for Fallon sucking...well, he's on live TV, has to converse with the audience/the devs and hasn't played the game at all. You would suck too. Trust me, I was in a TV segment once and when the camera is on you, it's a very alienating experience.
Not exactly a bad thing. Uncharted 2 is probably the best looking game out, and all Uncharted 3 had to do is change the setting and have a continuation on the story.
Woah! What's up with all the Uncharted hate? It's derivative, sure, but it's also one of the best third person shooter series out there, seeing 2 minutes of blurry footage a year before the third game releases is nowhere near enough information to make judgement calls of any kind.
I have yet to play the first two Uncharted games, so I can't say anything about them, but Uncharted 3 isn't due out for at least another year, correct? That must be why I find it so HILARIOUS that the amateur trolls can start passing judgement based on this video and proclaiming what it's going to be like.
I'm an Xbox fanboy, and proud of it. But what's up with all the hate towards the graphics and AI? They have a year to get it looking great, so lay off, fellow Xbox lovers.
A year from completion, it's looking really good. Like was mentioned the clipping for enemy fist fights is a bit weird, but I trust Naughty Dog will sort those issues out by it's release.
Speaking of the melee, it looks like they've improved it quite a bit, made it flow a little better, more dynamic angles and interactions; I like it. Cannot wait to see more of this game.
Why can't people just sit down and enjoy games for what they are? Seriously, is it so god damn hard to enjoy something rather then hate it on purpose because it's on a different console? Grow the fuck up, but that is probably too hard for some people to do.
Nice new melée combat moves. See how Drake smacked that guys forehead off the table?? That was awesome. A whole year away and it's already looking great.
Stop getting so upset Soffik. I'm sure if you ask Santa nice he'll bring you a PS3 bundled with GT5 and Uncharted 2. Maybe that will cure that nasty inferiority complex you've got going on.
I was not all that excited about this gameplay actually. Levels like this always have me rushing and nervous and I don't ever just sit back and look at the beauty of what actually went into making that level. I wanted more desert because that looked amazing(!) in the trailer. Still, looks like melee has taken yet another step forward which is great to see. The fire effects DO look awesome and the story sounds every bit as engaging as the first two. I LOVE this series more than any other this gen and I am confident that U3 will deliver another intensely gratifying experience.
I think U2 it's definitely one of the best games this gen, but i agree with this: "bruceleethree:Amy Hennig is the worst game director and the luckiest"
Also, "the best videogame franchise ever", really Fallon? Really!? you have to be kidding, U2 is superb but the first Uncharted it's just a good rent, short and flawed but charming and entertaining. The Uncharted franchise over Mario? Zelda? Donkey Kong? fuck you Fallon.
Oh Sofikk stop lying to yourself. You know you want to play it. I know as a hardcore 360 fan it's hard for you to admit that you're missing out on the best games of the generation, but you're letting this jealousy turn into a mad hatred.
Listen to yourself. Velvet Assassin good?? That was one of the last games I ever tried on the litterbox and it was nearly unplayable. Worse than the Sabateur.
@Sofik88
I looked forward to Metro 2033 so much that it was borderline insane. It was one of the only game i would constantly nag on my friends to get when it arrived because we are all post-apocalyptic nerds. Anything postapocalyptic and im there, no doubt. And we bought it to our 360s
But that game didnt fail because it wasnt dumbed down, that game failed because at times it was a complete broken mess.
Sometimes i would sneak up on enemies and stand one foot from them blasting them in the head with a shotgun and they didnt even flinch, and thats not good gamedesign, thats fuckin broken hitboxes.
Although the atmosphere was awesome, the game was a broken mess.
But anyway, if this was a 360 exclusive, you would be here gushing about how amazing it is. Too sad everyone else can see it but you. I really hope 88 isnt your birthyear
@soffik88
This is somewhat off-topic, but the comment about Splinter Cell Conviction, you can't really say that it was stolen from SSC, seeing as how it was basically a rehash of old game ideas, which made it the worst game in the series. IMO.
On topic: The game looks amazing, this game, Resistance 3, Uncharted 2, MGS4, and many other games are the reasons that I'm going to get a PS3, but I will still play my 360 often.
I haven't seen much Uncharted 1/2 game play, but isn't this series supposed to be amazing in terms of character animation and the transitions between those animations? Perhaps it's due to how much more development needs to be done on the game, but I really wasn't too impressed with what I saw. Bear in mind that I'm not passing judgment on the quality of the models and the textures, as that wouldn't be fair with the resolution on this video. But those animations...ouch.
@Epic-KxDtoid
No. PC elitists are the worst. You know why? Because all they love is teh Crysis grafix! As for the Xbox 360, I can name 100 (exaggerating) flaws, but you'll just ignore because them because you won't accept the fact that the Xbox 360 has more flaws than the PS3. The Wii fanboys... I don't really see any Wii fanboys, but there was one on N4G who said that Wii 2 and 3DS graphics will be far better than PS3 graphics... Yeah... They're just as worst.
I find it amusing that Jimmy supposedly LOVES the Uncharted series yet he didn't know to hit the R1 button to fire his weapon. The video game industry is dying folks, lack of creativity and sequel obsession is killing our hobby. You just witnessed another somewhat interesting game series being milked to death in a very short time.
@kevinski
How about you actually play Uncharted 1 and 2? Anyways, like soJtuna said, the game isn't coming out till 11 months from now (the 1 year later is a lie!)
@soffik88 - you make it sound like you only use one button to play Assassin's Creed but last I cheack all of them were used and then there is also a button that remaps others. Also the whole scripted gameplay you keep talking about is also on Xbox 360 games too. Look at Halo Reach and the battles that play even if you don't, Alan Wake and all the scripted events, and don't forget COD and the Missions that play themselves. But guess what, I Injoy these games just as much as I Injoy my PS3 games. Scripted gameplay is in about all games because it is a scrip - something that is written to happen. Sounds like how games are made.
I'm gonna have to be careful here because, while there are some trolls about, nobody seems interested in seeing anything negative about Uncharted here.
I didn't really like U2. The shooting was repetitive and on difficulties higher than easy I found myself sitting behind the same cover for too long while a single enemy out of the dozen I had to kill soaked up 10 shots or more before dying. The platforming felt more like scripted cues than proper platforming and it left me with a game I really only enjoyed once the cinematics started, or one of the fantastic set piece levels came around.
@teakayfortoowon
I'm not going to disagree with you. The platforming looked amazing but played boring, and much of the actual game-play wasn't very inspiring. Still, the set pieces were worth it. I definitely intend to play UC3 for the experience, though, and I love the Lawrence of Arabia theme.
The Uncharted Series is one that I've enjoyed pretty much in this gen, looking forward to U3 and obviously there's still a lot of developing time for that kind of bugs. Still, I think it was a mistake of Naughty Dog to show that early footage because it was easy for trolls.
And sofik, not the first time I've seen you trolling just for trolling, and just for the satisfaction I'm going to say: Saying a move like that is stealed is just as retarded as I saying that Master Chief stealed Mario's jump.
Besides that,
I'm really looking forward to see what they will plan for MP, I really enjoyed the MP in U2, also, hope that doesn't block any of the singleplayer development.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It was the developer's mediocre aiming skills as well.
Maybe I'm good at Third Person Shooters and I just don't know it...
I know I am so hyped about this game. It looks fantastic and Jimmy Fallon is one lucky dude.
man I hate you guys sometimes. Fucking whining 'elitists' with probably little skill.
Amy Hennig is the worst game director and the luckiest, simultaneously.
I'm not a chauvinist.
As for Fallon sucking...well, he's on live TV, has to converse with the audience/the devs and hasn't played the game at all. You would suck too. Trust me, I was in a TV segment once and when the camera is on you, it's a very alienating experience.

About the animations, don't forget that the game isn't coming out until November of next year. I think they still have some time.

Yeah, that looks pretty incredible.
