Warriors Orochi 2: Rebirth of the Demon Lord

Most Koei fans will tell you that Warriors Orochi was a pretty awesome game, and with it fusing Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors into one big title, you'd think that was going to be the perfect sendoff for Koei's last-gen hack n' slash ventures. Not so, apparently, since Warriors Orochi 2: Rebirth of the Demon Lord has been announced.

The game will include all the new playable characters from Samurai Warriors: XL and, for those of you who can remember about eight million sequels back, DW3's Fu Xi and Nu Wa will also be included. In addition to that, new stages, and new modes Dramatic Mode, Survival Mode and Versus Mode will make their way into the game.

The Japanese PS2 release will hit Japan on April 3rd. This will inevitably make its way overseas and I expect to hear about an Xbox 360 release sometime down the line as well. All I can say for now is that I was pretty stupid not expecting Orochi to be the birth of a franchise, rather than a sendoff for anything. In fact, I'm pretty sure this announcement qualifies as self parody on the part of Koei.

Hey, this may be an interesting time to point something out that is semi-obvious. Koei didn't do a bad job with Orochi, seeing as how it wasn't the tried and true storyline we've all played about 4 or 5 times past (with all the characters and even a few instances with new ones we made up ourselves). They kind of haphazardly slapped the two titles together with the cheesy storyline we were ALL expecting it to be, but the gameplay was solid. I'll buy it; might be interesting to see an actual new IP come out with the same old characters.

Also, I heard that Warriors Orochi was the last game to use the old DW engine; maybe we get a revamped and retooled Renbu system like in 6 or (gasp) a new engine for a different franchise?

Also, who the hell is Nu Wa?

Well now theres pretty much no need to buy any samurai warriors/dynasty warriors games any more. KOEI has got the right idea here. Why clog up your shelf with lots of games, when you could have just one SUPER game. God damn I want a PS3 so much right now.

Silverhertz: It's a PS2 game. :-)

PwnDaddy: Nu Wa and Fu Xi are Chinese mythological characters. They were hidden characters in Dynasty Warriors 3, but only appeared as possible create-a-warriors in DW4, after which point they disappeared completely.

Aha. I don't think I got very far into 3 before I got 4 and it's Occifer creation pulled me away for good.

Say, there wouldn't happen to be an Officer Creation Mode in DW6, now would there.....?

Sweeeeeeeet. Probably will just be more an expansion, though honestly, if they can just fix your allied generals getting killed by a single peon, I am so down. That's about the only complaint I had with the first one.

Fantastic, though I'm disappointed that this isn't being made for the next gen systems from the ground-up. It would have been nice to see the DW6 redesigns in this game, and maybe some SW redesigns...?

My main concern with this game is that they improve upon the dismal co-op in the first game. Having the second player play a palette-swapped identical team turned my wife away from the game entirely, and I admit it was pretty crappy. If each player can have their own unique characters then I will be happy.

Of course, I'm buying it either way, because I am Koei's bitch.

More Warriors goodness. Very awesome to see the return of Fu Xi and Nu Wa! I just wonder, since Koei started announcing it's push for more downloadable content via Live and such that this wouldn't be available as an add on to the original Orochi Warriors on the 360. Either way, as long as it's released here, I'm a happy man.

Dynasty Warriors 6 in less than two weeks,
Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends in a month or so,
Recently announced Dynasty Warriors BOW for the Wii,
and now Warriors Orochi 2!

The Warriors goodness continues! Also Lu Bu.

You know... eventually I'll cave and buy a DW game once I finish the achievements on Ninety-Nine Nights. Which one would you recommend Jim?

As long as Gan Ning's C5 is still as godly as it was in the past 2 games.

and Nu Wa/Fu Xi returns? that's already an auto win.

Cool. I honestly lost interest in the Koei games long ago, last DW game I loved was 3... but Kessen 2 is still one of my favorite games of all time.

Seeing Jim's excitement for these games all over Dtoid always makes me happy :)
