Warren Spector's game is still coming photo

History lesson: Warren Spector is an influential RPG game designer, most likely best known for the Deus Ex games, Wing Commander games and his work on the Ultima series. He has his own gaming company called Junction Point Studios, which was bought by Disney in 2007, and is currently working on a new game that no one seems to know much about. He's also one of the strongest voices in the industry for the advancement of gaming as an art form and serious discussions on the topic.

Most of you probably already knew that, and you're just waiting around for Junction Point's new game which has been in development for what seems like an eternity (not a Duke Nukem eternity, but a while non the less). E3 brought news on the game and that news is that the game is still in development. Speaking with Gamasutra at the expo Disney's Graham Hopper said, "Warren's hard at work. He has a team working on a great project. We're going to show it when it's right and ready. We're very encouraged by what we're seeing. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised."

Sounds intriguing at least. Hopper then went on to discuss how giving developers enough time to make a game is the right thing to do and that is what they are doing with Spector's new game. The last we heard from it was a few pieces of concept art at GDC 2007 and a promise that when they do announce the game half the world will think they're crazy and the other half will think it's the coolest thing ever.

Lets hope Deus Ex isn't a one hit wonder.

He's hardly a one hit wonder. Before working on computer games he worked for various pen and paper RPG companies such as TSR and Steve Jackson Games. I actually have a copy of Toon signed by him from when I met him at a convention back in the late 80's. He just takes his time with projects and doesn't rush them...and I don't mean that in a Duke Nuke'em kind of way.

Deus Ex Invisible War was terrible. Here's hoping that Deus Ex 3 does better.

Whatever it ends up being, it'll be good. People say Invisible War was bad, but in reality it accomplished it's goal, which was to make Deus Ex more accessible. And whenever something complicated yet good is made more accessible, there will be the hardcore people who complain. That doesn't make the game bad though.
