Warren Ellis laid groundwork for Dead Space story photo

Warren Ellis is amazing. I swear, the man must not sleep a wink at night. Not only is he currently writing at least eight different comic book series, the direct-to-DVD anime adaptation of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and several other projects, now he's given us word that he's responsible in some capacity for the story in Dead Space.

It seems that Ellis had considerable involvement in the early stages of the game, stating in a newsletter that he, "wrote a bunch of the groundwork, backstory and structure." He does also state, however, that there was at least one other writer involved in the project, so it remains to be seen how much of his influence made it into the final product.

I must have read Transmetropolitan at least fifty times and I'm a huge fan of his current Doktor Sleepless series. As a result, this news has elevated Dead Space from being a game that had me mildly excited to downright frothing at the mouth for.  October can't come quickly enough for me, how about you?

instantaneous megafroth.

Warren Ellis is probably at least three people. There's no other explanation for the sheer volume and consistency of work he does. You know he does a weekly webcomic as well? http://www.freakangels.com

Wow! I wasn't terribly interested in this game, but I'm a big fan of Ellis. I'll have to give this game a second look. I'm skeptical as to how much influence his "groundwork" will have though.

They don't call him Internet Jaysus for nothing!

This game was high on my list when the big selling point was a holographic Inventory screen.

Protomark: Freakangels is fucking awesome.

The developer videos on live are awesome, go download them all. My mild interest in this game has been pushed sky high. This game has it all, unless it has a shitty control system I cannot see it fail.

It's nice to know such a great writer is involved with this game. Makes me even more excited about it.

Randombullseye approves of Warren Ellis. He's done good work in my favorite medium, so lets see what he can bring to the land of video games.

Whoa. I actually CARE about this game now. Still probably won't buy it, but I'll certainly give it a closer look.

Nice find, Ellis once again works his magic. I was already interested in the game, now I'm hyped. Wouldn't be surprised if they used his name as a selling point.

You know that Castlevania project he is working on has a website, and it hasn't been updated since December last year?

Yeah, I don't think there's anything happening with that. You guys should check in to it.

http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=6029 - The last news report about Castlevania 3. It's from June of this year. He said he had just submitted the final script (the two weeks he talks about are the two weeks leading up to this update). I wouldn't say its dead yet.

"And that’s two of my graphic novels that have attached screenwriters in two weeks. That’s a weird thing to think about. Within the same two-week period in which I turned in my final draft of the CASTLEVANIA; DRACULA’S CURSE screenplay myself. "

I don't know how he has time to do all this AND play violin for Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. Very impressive.

Heh, the man's a great writer and that's why he's on my bearded hall of fame. Transmetropolitan was an awesome series and stuff like Fell, Desolation Jones, Ocean and The Authority is great.

Ben Templesmith who illustrated Fell is the guy that's doing the artwork for the Dead Space tie-in comic.

Reassuring to see that's it's not a developer writing the plot, it's an actual author with a sci-fi background.

@Zombian: We3 was actually Grant Morrison, but that's an easy mistake to make. Both are incredible writers, both are completely insane. P.S. The Sword is fucking amazing.
