When Peter Moore announced a new three year warranty for all Xbox 360s affected by the notorious red rings of death, Microsoft was applauded for its up front, honest and somewhat humble approach. While fans rejoiced (somewhat), the head honchos at Microsoft were slightly less pleased with the way things were going. Take for example, Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer, who apparently felt the sting of the decision.
“We have to learn from our mistakes. It was painful to announce the write-off that we had to announce, and yet we knew we had to take care of our customers," Ballmer stated, although in saying "our customers," I think he meant to say "our public image." Of course it was painful for Microsoft to bring forth the warranty extension, considering it cost the company millions of dollars, but let's face it -- nobody who's had to replace as many machines as Brian Crecente will crack out the violins and play softly for the agony of those men in suits.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm gonna get this in Pay-Per-View.
Man, I feel bad for Brian Crecente. I wonder if he has a PS3, because if he does, it almost certainly has no issues of the sort...
This being a Jim Sterling post, I await the next 150 posts.
And that pretty much proves that your only reason for reading my stuff is to get upset and scream about the PS3. Thanks for proving me right about the guys who get upset by my posts.
They're only reading what they want to read.
Stop looking for a bias that is not there.
If they hadn't made a crappy product they wouldn't have had to the extend the warranty for the RROD, which by the way, didn't cover my 360 when it started scratching my discs.
loll i'm thinking the same ...i'm also sure somebody here will blame sony or the PS3 for this lollll
Iam sure Sony is at fault in all this too lol
Sony FTW

right now i see lot of good news regarding the PS3 and again i still read some bad stuff on this site for no good reason ... not from you but by unfair xbox fanboys ... i must say since last W-E you put an hold on the negativity of the PS3 and getting more fair with it ... by the way to tell you the truth ... i'm not really impress by the heavenly sword demo ...to show you that i'm not so fanboy like you think ... i won't tell people here that the game is hot when i'm not sur about it
yeah sony made some mistakes i agree with you ...but they also made good announcement but they never received any good credit for that ... except recently 'cause the 360 is not in a good period

You pretty much nailed my major complaint with the majority of "systems" products that Microsoft makes (operating systems and their game systems, stuff that is low-level to design/make). Microsoft does a decent job making non-systems software, like their Office products, but they've always not gone all the way and made their "systems" products the best they can be. I know they really could make "systems" products that aren't so problem-prone (virus' and others for Windows and RROD and others for 360) if they'd just design it right from the start, and not fork it off something that's already problematic (360's OS is Windows based... but only slightly, now).
But, since Sony has always been in the hardware business (and thus "systems" products) their hardware (not just their game systems, like their CD players and whatnot) is a bit better designed from the start, because they simply couldn't afford to replace ALL their hardware products if they failed. We see this in the PS3's resilience to failure (but this can't be said of older PS2/PS1 models... newest ones aren't so prone to failure, though). I'm not a fan of either companies' products, I just am stating what I'm seeing in their products and their history. I really do want both systems, but currently I'd only buy a PS3, seeing that it likely won't fail on me, and the hard drive upgradeability is another major plus.
Apparently you have difficulty reading the entire post, or is it just your attention span?
That being said, I'm very disappointed with MS. They've put me through the ringer time and time again, where I now find myself wishing I would get the RRoD, just so I wouldn't have to pay for repair. Also, Microsoft is incredibly silent in my opinion. They won't answer any questions or fill us in on anything but their next money maker. Personally, I'm sick and tired of being ignored, lied to, and cheated.
Eff Steve Ballmer. He's not losing any sleep over this. He probably cashed in on his stock the same time Robbie Bach did. I hope he can't sleep at night (actually I hope for much worse but I don't like to be mean, publicly).
:P
maybe that's why peter moore quit microsoft? maybe steve ballmer actually fired him!!!
