Wario needs to fire his advertising department photo

Will Greenwald over at Crave: The gadget blog recently received a copy of Wario: Master of Disguise for the Nintendo DS to review and was unimpressed by the swag that came with it.

Most game companies send neat promotion items along with their games like sunglasses, a snow globe or a piñata but Nintendo decided to send out with their game a purple mask and a fake mustache. How cheap of them.

I hope the rest of their advertising campaign isn't as bad as this or the game will end up in the bargain bin in no time. At least Will has a last minute Halloween costume. He could go as El Cheapo the bandito.

I'd prefer a cap to a mask.
That is unless there's a panty raid to be had.

Thats is funny as hell, but honestly isnt getting the game for free enough? And maybe they felt like they didn't need to buy good reviews.

Looks like it came with a wig too.

This is probably just how Nintendo get their kicks:

A tiny nanobot mobile wireless camera was placed in the package.

The camera films the disbelief on peoples faces, and them tryin it on.

It is all taped onto a DVD and made into a compliation.

Shigeru Miyamoto and the crew get some cheap laughs!

Seems like some intern just picked up the stuff at a dollar store.

I like it, it fits the feeling of the game perfectly. Just because it isn't entirely all that cool or useful doesn't mean it didn't do its job. It managed to get the game on destructoids main page. Good work Nintendo.

At least they could have created Wario masks. That would be cooler.

Fuck the swag. I'd gladly take the free game.

Am I supposed to feel bad someone didn't get free stuff from Nintendo that they liked?

This guy is clearly out of touch, to seriously look to the rabble to complain about the free shit he gets

I guess the copy of the game wasn't enough of a freebie?

If that thing on his head is anything else but a wig, then this guy really needs to worry about more important things than reviewing a game.

You know what? The guy over at Crave isn't even complaining about it (read below). It's Faith who's bitching.

From Crave:
"When public relations companies send games to reviewers, they seldom send just the game. Usually it's the game, plus some colorful tissue paper, a snow globe, a mouse pad, or something like that. That's known as "swag," which is used by marketing departments and public relations firms to help build up hype about products.

Sometimes said marketers/PR reps make strange choices.

We recently got sent Wario: Master of Disguise for the Nintendo DS. It's the usual story of Wario stealing treasures and whatnot, this time using a magic wand (read: DS stylus) that can give him different costumes. To go with the game's theme of Wario wearing masks, the game came with two important pieces of swag: a mask and a fake mustache.

I haven't actually tried the game yet. But if it's half as fun as the mustache that came with it, then it's one of the greatest games ever."

Yep, Faith. Nintendo's totally cheap for sending this guy a free game.

You're just jealous you aren't on the list. Though I bet you could grow your own mustache to make up for the lack of swag.

Well, honestly though, if their promotional swag consisted of stuff that you could buy from the Dollar Store, I wouldn't have even bothered.

But whatev, no one cares about my opinion. I learned from WOW last night that I'm sexist, much to my suprise.

If it's expensive, Nintendo is all about quality. If it's cheap, well, it's an ironic commentary, so Nintendo is all about quality.
