Warhorse to use CryENGINE 3 for its open-world RPG photo

Prague-based Warhorse Studios has reached a licensing deal with Crytek to use CryENGINE 3 for the company's unannounced open-world RPG. Big deal, who cares. Right? Wrong!

Before you write this news off, let me first point you to the team's website. Look at that badass image on the landing page. You might also like to know that Warhorse is made up of industry members who have worked on games like Mafia, Operation Flashpoint, and UFO: Aftershock.

"Even if our new project is different in many respects, it is a game that is not going to disappoint fans of open realistic worlds and quality stories," reads the website. "We are positive we are not making this game for ourselves only but for you as well."

Here's hoping the graphics are of the realistic kind, unlike Amalur.

Please do not let EA, Activision or Ubisoft get their hands on this project. This sounds like too much potential awesome to let it get castrated by a shitty publisher.

I'll be disappointed if the open-world RPG ends up too realistic. I've wanted an open-world game that plays like the first FarCry after Gene Eric Genericson gets his beast-man powers or Crysis as soon as the meaty filling of the suit gets it in gear ever since I've laid eyes on either of those games.

It is of little import that it isn't going to be made by Crytek so long as they make proper use of what they're gaining access to now.

Itilian mobsters with military grade weaponry against aliens? Why not make that instead. :P

While I have no doubt that with the CryENGINE 3 this could be a superb looking RPG, I do hope the game has a lot of substance to it too. It takes a lot more than pretty visuals to create an immersive RPG-experience.

@deathmetalpizza

Well, using CryENGINE 3 doesn't really mean that the graphics are going to be grounded in reality. It's just a physics engine. Unless, of course, you mean that the graphics are going to look really good, in which case they probably will.

Oh, my bad. Well I hope they look really realistic. I remember reading something about Dragon Age 3 possibly using the Frostbite 2 engine and it made me wet my loins. This news did the same.

@cheeseoflegend the cryengine does quite a bit more than just physics.
However a good engine does still not guaranty a good looking game.
