Wanted: Weapons of Fate producer disses the Wii big time photo

Tired of hearing people trash talk the Wii? Well, sorry to have to pile on to your woes, but the dissing goes on. This time, it's from Peter Wanat, who's worked on titles such as Scarface, Chronicles of Riddick and the upcoming Wanted: Weapons of Fate. Speaking on the Invisible Walls podcast, Wanat says third party developers aren't really finding success on the Wii and compares the Wii to the "f*cking Sega Genesis" (which is an insult to the Genesis if you ask me).

Other key words from Wanat include talk of "crappy graphics and basic control play". He also says that the Wii is for "little kids and old people" as well as "hardcore Nintendo fanboys."Oh boy ... can you feel people warming up to destroy this guy?

In all honestly, the entire group on the podcast seems to openly poke a bit of fun at the Wii, which seems to echo the majority opinion of the little console. There are some pretty interesting takes on the current state of third party games for the Wii as well, naturally which gets you thinking about the types of games that the Wii is lacking. Do you feel that the third party situation for the Wii could improve this year?

I couldn't even finish listening to it after about 3 minutes. When he said that the fact that Scarface was a port to the Wii could not possibly have had anything to do with its relatively low sales, that Madworld would have to sell 3 MILLION copies to legitimize the Wii as a third party platform, and that to port a game to the Wii you need to make it go below what a PS2 game is, my mind nearly exploded from the sheer fucking idiocy of it all.

It's really incredible what a fucking retard that guy is.

You know, come to think of it, this guy kinda reminds me of Tomonobu Itagaki. He was known for outright insulting his competition in the past, and that's exactly what this guy is doing. The only difference is that Tomonobu Itagaki's games are good.

RE: His whining about Scarface on the Wii

Even with control changes, ports usually do worse than the original run. Even then, is it not essentially "free" money to release an already complete game with different controls (i.e., RE4, Godfather, etc.)? What odd logic.

That's a bitch slap to the Genesis :/

If anyone is wondering why there's so much Wii hate maybe it has to do with the annoying controls and incredibly outdated graphics? Just a thought.

@ Sam Spectre: Or maybe it's because of douche bags like this guy who seem to focus more on negative attacks on a console that has opened up a much broader audience than he could have ever accomplished.

Or the outdated graphics. If that's all you play games for.

"Having played the "hit people in the head with the cannonball with six-axis" game in heavenly sword, I think a well done "curve bullets with the wii-remote" mechanic in a game could be awesome (as long as it wasn't the whole of the experience, etc.

C'mon Mr. Wanted guy, it took me three seconds to come up with an awesome wii game idea based on your licensed property."

I heard one of the guns in The Conduit has that very mechanic as a secondary feature.

As a Genesis fan, I'm offended by that statement.

There's been quite a surge of quality 3rd party games that have come out for the Wii in the past 3 months. In fact my Wii library has fattened up considerably in the last 45 days. House of the Dead Overkill was one of the most fun games I've played in a long time. I haven't played Madworld yet, but I"m gonna be getting in the near-future. I'm also debating whether to get the DS version of the new Crystal Chronicles game or the Wii version.

Then you got really unique games like Deadly Creatures, Trauma Center, Rune Factory Frontier and the upcoming Little King's Story. Seriously, there's plenty of quality third party Wii games out there, and have yet to be released, and I"m not gonna waste my breath mentioning them. But I'm gonna set this straight once and for all:

Ya know why you got all this shovelware on the Wii? Okay, say you're a ho-hum nobody little game developer that's just trying to make a quick buck. What console do you make your game for? The ones that are more expensive to code for and have a lower install base? Or the one that's the easiest (and cheapest) to code for and has a massive install base? You don't have to be a neurosurgeon to figure this out.

Now, to drive a stake into the heart of the notion that third parties aren't taking the Wii seriously, allow me to show you this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUA-uTPpD_A

You see, when Capcom saw how successful the Wii was, they knew what time it was. They went to Sony, and they said, "Hey, sorry, but we wanna make money, so we're gonna make the full-fledged sequel to one of the hottest gaming franchises in Japan right now for the Wii, but I guess we can keep making games for the PSP."

The ultimate indictment of this "graphics are king" mentality could be summed up in one sentence: Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G was the best-selling game in Japan in 2008. A PSP game outsold EVERY other game for EVERY other platform. Games that touted epic stories and hyper-realistic graphics were beaten out by a game with NO plot, and the graphical capabilities below the level of a PS2.

So, much like most of this sensationalist crap we hear about all of the gaming platforms, it's mostly just sound and fury, signifying nothing.
