With inFAMOUS now out on store shelves, all eyes are pointing toward Activision's Prototype, the open-world superhero game that I've personally been looking forward to for a long, long time. It's out next month, and this walthrough video with producer Tim Bennison shows off all you need to know about the game. There's free-running parkor, there's stealth, there's shape-shifting, and there's helicopter piloting. What more could you want?
If anything, inFAMOUS has just made me look forward to Prototype even more, and this video seals the deal. It doesn't look as graphically tight as some games out there, but the sheer variety of gameplay and the crazy attacks that can be pulled off should make up for it. I don't need super beautiful graphics when I'm throwing soldiers at helicopters for a laugh.

Meet the rest of the team
I had a hands on during New York Comic Con and I had a ton of fun just running and jumping off buildings. It's very fluid and I really hope they don't mess this one up. I've been looking forward to another Hulk: Ultimate Destruction but a new original story will do :)
I hope the structure of this mission is throughout most of the game. I like the open concept of how to tackle missions (though, some of them seem to heavily rely on stealth) but have an issue if the game is kind of laissez faire in the direction of missions.
This is why I loved Jak 3 and the Sly Raccoon games last generation. Variety, style and more than just "Here is a gun. You can shoot those things with it. They will die. Sometimes, you may shoot them in the head and they will die faster". The stealth looks solid, the parkour looks fun and the over-the-top moves just look damn entertaining. Even if its bad, my pre-order money has gone towards ambition!
Although, the fact that this is Mission 7 and described "..later in the game" is a tad peculiar to me, but oh well.
This game looks good anyway. just look at inFAMOUS. They put most of their effort into the karma (which has been done before)and the graphics (also been done before) and that game is boring as hell. This has been designed to be straight up fun from the get-go.
Not ready to pre-order, but I'm certainly intrigued. It would take some major work to make this thing fail; there are so many games from past years they can learn from and build on.
Comparisons to inFAMOUS are unfair though, they're both very different third person sandbox games. Saying that I'm looking forward to doing crazy shit in Prototype.
@Sick
Not weeks ago, but a week, max. Either way, I like the gliding/running on walls a little better than inFamous' "traversing" scheme. They're both great, this one just looks more anime-esque.
Seeing so much Spiderman 2 in this game has sold me. I think I had a lot more fun just swinging around and doing various non-mission related shit than actually progressing the story. Needless to say, it took a fair bit to get me tired of Spiderman 2.
God I'm either going to kidnap my friends and force them to buy this or buy it for them as a "gift". To believe some idiots still say the PS3 has no games
Bring on the madness!!!

I was hoping for Hulk follow up also, but there still may be a chance. While I am very excited about Prototype, this dev team (radical?)wanted to work on another Hulk title (non movie based) and I hope they get their wish.
They lost the license to Sega who in turn did the best they could to copy the ThInHulk:UD for the recent movie tie-in game. While the game was prettier (ran on unreal tech) than Hulk:UD the moves list for the game was a bit shorter and the action was much more tame.
Activison did a good job with Spidey:WoS (that is aside from some voice acting choices and open world mission decisions) and they nailed the comic flavor of Spidey's powers in ways similar to Hulk:UD. Marvel has been getting better at recognizing which developers have a handle on their characters (stripped EA of nemesis - thank God) and the ways in which their "powers" should be presented. I think with the success of Prototype, the stellar Wolverine game, and a Spidey game that finally captured how ridiculous his powers are in action....there is a good chance we'll see another Hulk crafted by this team. Well, I hope so at least.
This game blows me away. It looks lie so much fun just to move around in the city. I dont think its directly comparable to Infamous, they both have a different focus. I'm already loving Infamous, can't wait to play this!
I think I'm gonna like the on foot missions a lot more than driving crap. Oh and to CrazyApe69, who said Infamous's graphics has been done before, what do you mean by that? Of course graphics haven't been done. If there were no graphics, it would be a text adventure at best. I mean everything that has been shown in Prototype has been done too so you're not making a valid argument by calling Infamous boring... You probably never played it.
If people actually played Infamous, you would know these 2 games are of a different breed from one another. And that Infamous is action pack from the get go. There are some intense firefights in that game, and explosions too!
Once I'm done with Infamous, I'll cop Protoype just to watch people bleed.
The only problem I foresee with this game is that it will be quite easy. With Hulk:UD, i felt no challenge completing that game at all, Hulk was massively overpowered.
Yet, it was one of THE most fun games of last generation, and I loved every minute of it.
As I will buy both inFamous AND prototype at launch, the good thing is that they compliment each other. Afetr playing and beating the inFamous demo on hard, I was wholly satisfied at the level of challenge on that game, Cole is fallible, you cannot go in guns blazing on that game. Strategy and preperation is the key, not ot metion skill. Yet with prototype, the sheer amount of well, OTT action will make me buy it. No to mention the game looks like a lot of fun.
inFamous is the type of game where you appreciate the challenge and task of beating the game, whereas Prototype will give you tons of fun.
I was looking forward to this game for like two years and now I could care less. Out of the three sandbox games, inFAMOUS, RF:G, and Prototype, I'm most excited about RF:G. Maybe a demo of this game would help me remember why I was so pumped for this game so many months ago.
While they're clearly different games, the inFamous comparison is kind of unavoidable. I played the demo long enough to blow myself up with my own lightning grenade (why is that possible?), trigger a mission fail by walking in the wrong direction (no warnings, boo) and guard a crate from anti-crate activists (have games not moved beyond using crates, yet?).
By comparison, Prototype is looking pretty sharp -- definitely looking forward to trying it out.
inFamous is great so far it's been holding my attention pretty good so far and I do see these two games being similar.
Prototpye looks cool as well but might end up being a rental for me as I'm a story driven gamer and I have seen little if any story, in Prototype. I get bored FAST of open games that throw you in them and say "Hey, blow shit up and do what'evs, later". My brother on the other hand likes these style games over stories.

A week and a half can't come fast enough.

Too bad it takes about a month to arrive here from US, but if i use a pricier service maybe...

I love that difference.

Beat me to it good sir or madame.
Wow thanks for correcting me on that on that one (I think it was probably all the talk of inFAMOUS that got me assuming in was an exclusive^^)
game looks amazing though, i'm so hyped i have dreams about it every night.
this will be THE game of this year for me.
Prototype should have been 360 exclusive, so they could've put a bit more effort into it, but alas.
