Want Rock Band 2 for Wii? Hope you don't mind waiting until 2009 photo

Wii owners have really gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to Rock Band, if the complaints about the Wii port had anything to say about it. We heard in late October that it was possible that Rock Band 2 for the Wii could be delayed into 2009, but MTV Games quelled our worries, saying that the bundles would ship in late December.

However, if you put stock in the words of the official website, Rock Band 2 for the Wii will not ship until January 5th, 2009 ... definitely not what fans of the series were hoping for. Retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart and Gamestop still have it listed for a November release date, but seeing that January release on the official site kind of hammered the nail into the coffin for me.

Wii owners, do you feel like you got shafted on this one?

It's going to be the parents who bought wiis for their kids this last year that will be the ones really upset, because they will try to get it by christmas, whereas people planning on buying it for themselves will just wait.

Yeah really! Who cares about RB2 on the Wii when GH:WT is already out for the system? Harmonix is just shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to RockBands sales on Wii which could have been huge.

Just look at GHIII last year selling well over 3 million on the Wii. If Harmonix wanted to they could have cut into that install bass, but they're not. So they're just giving all them sales up to GH:WT instead.

Solidified my choice. I can't believe the missed opportunity, they've got to be kicking themselves right? Giving Activision the Wii is like giving them the win, isn't it? Question is, does anybody buy guitar hero on 360 or ps3 or is that the Rock Band crowd now?

Curious to see how this battle plays out.

Yeah we have it in our systems at Gamestop as January 5th now.

Activision must be laughing all the "Wii" to the bank with this announcement. Considering that GH3 offered more in their Wii version, such as online capabilities, than we got with the later-released, gimped PS2 port of RB, Harmonix is not exactly making up for what they did before by further delaying RB2.

The phrase "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" comes to mind.

Late December to January 5th isn't really that big of a difference. But then, that's coming from somebody who's had Rock Band 2 for over a month now.

If I recall correctly, according to one of the administrators at rockband.com, the store on their site isn't actually maintained by Harmonix, but an external company.

Whether or not this has any effect on the release date, I don't know.

It makes me wait for Rock Band 2 a bit longer, and that's disappointing, but ah well.

@Dexter:

True, but 2008 to 2009 is a big psychological barrier. Even at that, it makes me wonder why they feel the need to delay. Is this an indication of a programming problem? On-line problem? What?

GH:WT is here ... now. Delaying RB2 is going to do nothing more than push those who've been waiting to make a decision lean towards GH:WT.

I agree with brain, the parents are the ones who are kinda screwed by this. Both track lists on each game are good, unless you have a kid that really wants Rock Band bad I'd just get them World Tour, but only if you had to, speaking from a kiddie Wii viewpoint. Those older types can just wait and get it in 09.

What John B said is true too about the psychological barrier between 08 and 09. It the same as seeing a product for $20 and the same one for $19.99 most of us will reach for the one marked $19.99.

Wii owners should already have Rock Revolution and Bratz Babyz Rock. Or Wii Music!

Is this just for the bundle? Or the staand alone game too.

It's too bad both RB and GH suck for the Wii, otherwise this might be worthwhile news.

"Wii owners should already have Rock Revolution and Bratz Babyz Rock. Or Wii Music!"

They already have GH:WT, and I'm sure they're buying it up in the million just like last year with GHIII. So don't act like there's no good rhythm games on the Wii just because Harmonix continuously screws up every year on the system!

Fuck! RB2 for the Wii apprently is going to have all of the same features that the other console versions have had. I wonder if that is the reason for the delay.

Looks like Professor Pew, yet another one who can't STFUAJPG, has decided to take Robert Summa's place, only with less venom.

Looks like John B can use a shot of sarcasm detector!

Although I do think We Cheer is awesome.

If I need a sarcasm detector, then you can blame the fanbois (on all sides) for giving me a cynical attitude on console critics. Sometimes it's like the damned PC/C64 flame wars of the late 1980s -- and just as childish.

It is all a ploy to dump as many of the gimped RB1 boxes on consumers.
