Whenever the name of Level 5 is invoked, one question invariably crops up: "When are we getting another Dark Cloud?" The series is overdue a revival, but it never seems to happen, despite the clamoring of the gamer community. Still, while no plans are currently in motion, Level 5's Yoshiaki Kusuda told Kotaku that the team would consider it, if asked enough times.
"At this moment we don't have a specific plan for a sequel in the Dark Cloud series," he explains. "There are many staff members, including myself at Level 5, who have worked on the Dark Cloud series. There are some who decided to join Level 5 because they love the Dark Cloud series. So, if requests from users should increase in the future, we would seriously consider making it."
So there's your answer. It's your fault because you've not been demanding it enough. Go work on that and you might get your precious Dark Cloud.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Yes awesome game, the first one was cool too.
This game was really worth of every penny.
the first one was so awesome and chronicle was great too
so i would love the next one please!
^This.
Also, if they do something new with the series, for the love of fuck please don't include that golf mini-game.
You want to impress me, do another RG.
Or, considering the work they did on DQ8, apply that same technical expertise in crafting a Chrono Trigger remake on PS3. Say what you will about the likelihood of said idea coming to fruition or how massive in scope (read: expensive) the game would have to be, but it would introduce the greatest console RPG of all fucking time to a new generation of gamers while being the ultimate throwback to us old dogs.
Tell me it wouldn't threaten to break the world into splinters with the sheer amount of awesome that game would be capable of bringing to the fold. That's why I've always termed Chrono Trigger "RPGesus."
Rouge galaxy was ok but to be honest it got a bit boring and was closer in quality to the original dark cloud than dark chronicle.
@Everday Legend
That actually kinda seems like a pretty good idea about Chrono Trigger.
Should I write them a letter/e-mail?
I want at least one more, preferably on the the ps3.
It would work. And incredibly well.
Which is why it will never happen, as it seems that the largest, most capable developers in the world can't seem to get the concept of a "trump card." They can only grasp the simple notion of "do the same thing as last time," which is why the Final Fantasy series holds absolutely no draw for me at this point. Even the XIII videos inspired NOTHING out of me, I don't care how many badass afro hairdos or transforming sapphic-lesbian sportbikes you throw out there, it still sparks zero response. What would spark response is bringing back Crono, Marle, Lucca, Frog, Robo, Ayla and Magus. That would do wonders.
Also, just now noticing that HEL105 spells "helios." I see what you did there.
Automatic win.
I'm sorry, but I thought that Dark Cloud was a horrible game with extremely repetitve gameplay. I never played the 2nd one but that would be due to the fact that I hated the 1st one so much. Hell, even my GF and her 2 sisters gave up on the 1st one.
I love this game to death and want another so badly.
The golf mini-game is bullshit though.
I can't tell you the number of times I hear "what the hell does Hel-one-zero-five mean?" on xbox live. I don't even try to explain it anymore.
So does that mean you probably won't be picking up FFXIII? I can completely understand your recent apathy about the series, but I'm still hopelessly in love with the franchise, despite its faults (And yes, I do admit there are faults).
With all that said, every day I wake up with hope in my heart of news about a Chrono remake/ sequel or info about the new Parasite Eve game, and every night I go to bed hopelessly disappointed. It's a terrible cucle.
I've been meaning to replay it forever actually
But I'm leaving Level 5 enough time to get enough good ideas for the next sequel.
