A dog with cannons attached to its back? If someone hadn't told me such a thing wasn't really coming to Team Fortress 2 (at least not yet), I probably wouldn't have known otherwise. This mockup of Valve's class updates looks surprisingly real -- it's even got Steam achievements -- but a few things give it away.
All in all, it's definitely one of those "A for effort" scenarios. Personally, I found this MANN CO. letter to be quite a bit more entertaining than the user-created faux update page, but then again, one wouldn't work without the other. In my current sleep deprived state, I think the Guard Dog idea is just ridiculous enough to work.
I suggest Valve should go all out and bring the idea to Team Fortress 2 for one day of the month. If playable dogs in a first-person shooter for 24 hours doesn't end the world, nothing will.

Oh, and if it does become real, I give it a week before PETA flips shit over it.
Well, because Engineer is the only Support Class to not get a major update, and the Guard Dog is Support, that's where the "ZOMG CONSPIRACY!" came from.
Jarate was thought to be a joke and look where that ended. I just wouldn't be surprised if this was taken further in anyway, even a "Meet the Guard Dog" video, which would be awesome.
That's really the only problem I see concerning it. And seeing as how PETA's main headquarters is literally a two minute walk from where I go to school, the last thing I wanna see is people giving them more fuel for the fire...
And I really want a Meet the Guard Dog video. If they return to the 'interview' format, it'd cut to the Guard Dog doing insanely brutal things and then cut to the Guard Dog being interviewed, speaking English in a stereotypical posh British accent.
Also, gotta love Valve's response.

Really though, if this was balanced to perfection (Which Valve does very well), then this would be an amazing update. And don't get me wrong, I LOVE dogs (Greatest animals ever), but I don't see the problem in killing virtual dogs. If games haven't even been proven to actually cause people to become homicidal maniacs, then how will PETA prove that this will cause people to be doggie murderers?
Plus, who wouldn't want to play as a dog while he mercilessly rips a Scout's arm off while wearing a silly party hat?
I think if Valve were to take any inspiration from this it would be something like a robot dog that the engineer can build/upgrade.
