They say their calling "game on," but I know that Walmart has their eye on Amazon.com when it comes to the prices of games. And they're not about to give their sales up to Amazon either. Instead of backing down, they've cut prices on key games to match Amazon's.
They sent us a list of what had been cut, and here are some of the highlights:
- Left 4 Dead 2 - $50
- Halo 3: ODST - $50
- Uncharted 2 - $50
- Dragon Age: Origins - $50
- Batman Arkham Asylum - $50
- Tekken 6 - $50
- Rock Band: Beatles (Wii) - $40
As you can see, these are about $10 price cuts. Not bad. Even better, if you're looking to get a Wii, from December 5 through 12, you'll also get a $50 Walmart gift card. As for the games, its about a 15-20% discount. Nice.
The game discounts are good until Christmas Eve.
· Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics (Wii) – now $40
· Lego Rock Band (Wii) – now $40
· Rock Band: Beatles (Wii) – now $40
· MySims: Agents (Wii) – now $40
· Tekken 6 (Xbox 360 and PS3) – now $50
· Madden 2010 (Xbox 360 and PS3) – now $50
· WWE 2010 (Xbox 360) – now $50, WWE 2010 (Wii) – now $40
· Batman Arkham Asylum (Xbox 360) – now $50
· Dragon Age: Origins (PS3) – now $50
· Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360) – now $50
· Halo 3:ODST (Xbox 360) – now $50
· Uncharted 2 (PS3) – now $50
Why is it that the people who don't have to pay $10 for the privilege of playing "Ghostbusters" or "The Final Countdown" in Rock Band/Rock Band 2 get a $10 discount?

LOL
punish the retailer that will match prices but not lead with the best price.
A logical informed consumer rewards a retailer for having a consistently lower price not for a 1 day sale or matching prices.
Most consumers do not act logical because they don't have much knowledge of internet shopping.
Going into a brick store for a uniform consistent item, like a game - it is likely you are ignorant of price information, or you are just willing to pay the highest price.
So given these basics - The fact of Walmart cutting prices to catch up to Amazon is a great reason to shop at Amazon, and not to shop at Walmart.
Amazon is consistently the best price for games in my own experience.
