Walmart, Best Buy's used game kiosks to cease operations photo

You may have come across a Best Buy or Walmart location that had a game trading/renting/selling automated kiosk recently. Now they're leaving just as quick as they came.

It turns out that these machines were put in place by a company called E-Play. Now E-Play is going out of business. They're in the process of picking up their machines. They'll all be shut down and removed in the next three weeks.

Judging from your reaction from when we first reported on in, it's no wonder they're going out of business. I'm with many of you. I have no interest in buying a game without the packaging. I talked to a retail buyer a few months back about this. He assured me this would take off. If you're reading: I told you so.

what would keep ppl from ripping games out of packages in the store then sticking them into this machine?

@WhiteZombie

Cameras and locked security cases, I reckon.

The idea was pretty stupid, and the sad thing about it was you get better deals by going and trading in at a retail chain than the prices it was offering for things. I'm sure I would have figured a way to rip it off like I do redboxes, too bad it's dead in the water so soon.

Their gaming ki-what? I've yet to see a single one of these newfangled contraptions in my local Best Buy or my local Hellmart. Oddly enough, I've bought a ridiculous amount of new games from Hellmart in the Under $20 shelf. Used games give me the creeps. You never know which orifices those disks have inhabited 0_0.

When did Wal Mart start selling games?

No, this isn't right at all.

I'm fine getting a used game cartidge without packaging, but were they really expecting people to go and buy used CDs without any kind protection on them? Pbth. Ridiculous.

Interesting. I never heard of this before. I might have used one for PS2 games if I saw one. Many of my PS2 games were bought used to begin with and the boxes are in such terrible condition I decided to ditch them all and use a CD wallet. All my other consoles though are nice and pretty in their original cases, so I understand why this failed, still, kinda wish I saw one around.

I had an interview with them last February while I was unemployed (laid off). Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't get the job there.

I remember them telling me they were looking at getting into video game rental and trade-in when they were giving me a tour of the place before the interview, and asked, "Yeah, sounds cool, huh?" I think I told them it was interesting, but, as a pretty hard core gamer, I didn't see it working. Probably why I didn't get the job, but then again, I ended up being right.

Games without the package just feel like being cheated.

If you don't want the packaging you might as well download. There's a reason you don't see as many coverless games at GameStop anymore. Even the few you do see have fake printed covers.

People that are willing to pay more than $5 for a game don't want them.

Duh. I never saw one of these, and even if I did, I wouldn't have used it. GameStop is 6 blocks from my house. 1 block from the bus, and 1 block from the train. Why would I go anywhere else? Maybe, Amazon.com That's it.

I'm not sure how to feel about this, but when I'm a sniper I quickly kill specific targets and move to another place, I have never needed to prone in the beta because campers gets killed easely.
