This is simply adorable. The Wall Street Journal recently attempted to talk about videogames as it reported on the speculated corporate takeover of THQ and the valuable "IP" a publisher can possess. Y'know, I always thought "IP" stood for "Intellectual Property," but according to the real journalists, I'm completely wrong. Let's look at how JOURNALISM defines IP:
"Take-Two has a number of strong franchises and a number of wholly owned Internet Protocols. Wholly owned IPs not only carry higher profitability, but also are more valuable to media companies because they could be adapted into movies, TV serials and online destinations."
I believe this is one of those things that doesn't really need any additional commentary. Really, what else can I say to such a beautiful piece of writing? Sit back and revel in the JOURNALISM, kids. We mere bloggers can only hope to aspire to such fantastic editorial heights.
Internet Protocols.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Wha?
Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite internet protocols.
You are just jealous you are not a real journalist
I've got to go rethink my whole life now...
/Spooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorts!!
Were f*cked aren't we.
Looks like you've already managed to achieve similar heights in your writing.
thatsthejoke
I meant to say these are the guys that our brokers and investors that decide the path of economy take tips from.
Internet protocols, well at least they didn't say irritated pikachus or something along those lines( I would have died laughing)
YESSSSHH!!!....
i mean Internet!!! ....is it a new meme yet? i'am lost cause of the wall paper.
Not using it as a counterpoint exactly, but now would be a good time to bring up that 80% of Dtoid posts have at least one spelling/grammar mistake in them.
Unhappy byproduct of a job that involves posting an article every twenty minutes with news that happens ridiculously fast. We go back and edit whenever we spot a mistake (readers NEVER let a typo slip up without a comment) but you really can't expect someone who writes thousands and thousands and thousands of words a day to get by without the occasional typo.
I do, however, expect a professional from the Wall Street Journal who likely only wrote one or two things that day to know what they're talking about when trying to cover the game industry.
Much like how CP can stand for Communist party or Child pron. Those things are totally different.....or are they?
Invasive. Invasive Penetration.
"Wholly owned IPs not only carry higher profitability, but also are more valuable to media companies because they could be adapted into movies, TV serials and ONLINE DESTINATIONS."
That's just bad journalism.
Yeah, and most people like to get haughty and act as if "real journalists" (presumably those who write for publications like the Wall Street Journal) are infinitesimally more skilled and better at research and more accountable and blah blah blah - yet apparently, even WSJ employs people who can't so much as fact-check a simple acronym.
That's how they handle it in JOURNALISM school, sorry Wall Street Journal.
POWERFUL.
Seriously.
IP (Iambic Penetration) - The rhythm and force of penetration follows a pattern of stressed and unstressed strokes.
That's right, this shit just got Shakespearean.
I laughed so hard.
I love it when people who don't understand technology try to talk about it like they do.
In this context it means Intellectual Property
As a college graduate of journalism, certain things irk me. Such as this article. As well as this quote.
"Unhappy byproduct of a job that involves posting an article every twenty minutes with news that happens ridiculously fast. " - Jim
Bullshit.
Walter Cronkite said something along the lines of better be right than first. That may seem taken out of context because he worked in broadcast, but it still fits in all aspects of journalism today. The mistake in the WSJ? Yeah, that sucks. Our world already has enough misinformation to sort through, and a publication like the Wall Street Journal shouldn't let things like that get by.
But to simply brush off your (not personally you, Jim, but Dtoid as a whole) mistakes as an "unhappy by-product" is sloppy, unprofessional and irresponsible. This article in particular is 108 words without the quote. You're telling me, and the rest of the community, that you can't spend 30 seconds re-reading out loud your work so that your site's integrity can stay in tact?
It's because of the speediness of blogging, the internet and trying to be the first to break the story that we are swimming in the misinformation I touched on earlier.
I love Destructoid. I come here every couple of hours to get some gaming news. But you can't make excuses for juvenile mistakes, and you can't rightly justify something like this (neither can the Journal). Blogging has quickly become the place where many of our generation get their news. We at least deserve the best. It doesn't have to be the fastest, but it damn well better be right, in both fact and grammar.
Just my two cents.
