Wake up, Alan: Alan Wake development is still going, despite problems photo

People have been expecting to hear more about Alan Wake for a long time, but it's been so long now that many are likely expecting to hear only that it's been canned. For those of us still interested in this "psychological action thriller," it should be noted that the game isn't dead yet, with developer Remedy stating that Alan Wake is still very much in the works.

...we're still here and working hard on getting Alan Wake for you to enjoy. Sure, we've been in development for a long time and if everything had gone perfectly smoothly there probably would be a game out for you guys to play already. But designing a completely new game can be hard, and sometimes you need to take a detour to find the best route forward.

I wonder if "a detour" suggests that the next time we see Alan Wake, it'll be a very different beast from what we saw last. Was the Max Payne developer being a bit too ambitious when it first started making the game? In my experience, that's usually what happens when a title spends time in limbo followed by a developer making subtle hints about development changes.

We shall see. Alan Wake still has a buzz surrounding it, but we'll need to see some solid stuff soon if people are going to keep caring.

That's a shame, I was looking forward to this for a while. It's been off my radar for...hmm...let me see, carry the 2...15 years now.

Is it just me, or does Mr. Wake there look like John Stamos searching for his career?

It would look more like Stamos if he were pointing the gun at himself rather than forward.

If we get it before Duke Nukem Forever, I'll be happy.

You do have a point. He'd probably also be sobbing and saying something like "I wish I had the balls to do it."

I hope the "detour" doesn't include Halo Chronicles: Alan Wake.

I think Jim hit the nail on the head there. Over ambitious scope. They are going to have to dial it back a bit. What would be better? A gimped game or a wait until the next generation? Or is this all crazy talk?

I'm still as excited about this game as I was when I first heard about it. It's got all the things in a game I'd like to play.
In the meantime, they could relase a teaser XBLA game along the lines of Alan Wakeboarding: The Churning Sea.

They should just release it as Alan Wakeboarding Unleashed and then get to work on the next Max Payne game.

I'm still a little bitter that they decided to go with this game instead of more stylized gun fighting action games. I bought both Max Payne games and loved every second of them. Its been too long since the last :(

...I just hope it's not the buzzing of flies.

A buzz over what? Is anything even really known about this game? There's hype over the lack of solid facts about this game, and that's just silly.
