Quantcast

Well, not so much die, but be one of the uncool kids, and that's pretty much the same thing as being dead. So, Nintendo has released it's new "Everybody Votes" channel which will allow readers to vote on the truly hot button issues that are facing the gaming world today, like:

Which is a more romantic Valentine's Day gift? Chocolates or roses.

I'd rather live in a house on...A mountain or a beach.

Do you prefer dogs or cats?

Which century would you prefer to live in? 19th century or 22nd century.

How hard hitting! I realize that it's just the initial launch and these are just placeholders. Hopefully Nintendo will be able to use this as a serious feedback tool for gamers as to what they want to see in the future, but I have a feeling that it's going to be horribly misused and ask extremely vague questions, or "which Nintendo character is your favorite?" What are some other things that I noticed with the channel?

[ Editor's note:  Pffft. I want my www.Wii.tv  --Niero ]

When my friend was registering, it changed his Mii's shirt color from black to  light blue. The color change happens repeatedly, as whenever you vote, your shirt changes to the color that's associated with the vote. Also, it allows you to suggest questions, but it only allows you to submit one question per day, and your questions become the property of Nintendo.

One bit that's irritating is that we still had to type in country and state, despite the fact that this information's been put into the Wii several times over. Shouldn't this information be there already, since it was entered when the system was first set up, and entered again when the Weather Channel update was performed?

So, go Destructoidites, and propose to Nintendo this question: Which gaming site is better? Destructoid or Kotaku. I would say Joystiq, but we already pwned them.

[Thanks to Matthew for the screens and video!]

This channel has easily the most annoying music I've heard yet in the Wii interface. I think Nintendo might have accidentally used a song from the inevitable Wii version of Mario Kart by accident.

Also, people can finally quit their bitching about the News and Weather channels being the least useful channel. A new champion has been crowned.

Nintendo should really start focusing on the "Let's actually start putting out those Spring games we promised at E3 last year" channel.

Otherwise known as the LASPOTSGWAELY Channel.

I pronounce it as Lahspas-gwah-lee. Channel.

Alright, I'm done now.

Hey, the new channel made my afternoon. Though, that was mostly due to that beautiful blue light coming on.

Anyone else reminded of "Everybody Poops" by this channel name?

Anyway, I really don't see the point in this. To be honest, I hate the channels. I suppose it fits with the Wii controller, but there's no need for some of these.

I felt it was my civic duty to use my daily question to ask if you would like to see Guitar Hero on the Wii.

I assumed they are screening these questions to hell and back. No parent wants theyre children asked if they wipe their asses with brillow pads.

So I kept my guitar hero question mature as possible. And you will ALL vote yes. or die.

Just another little tool to get me to actually power on my Wii at some time other than a party. (Drunken Wii Sports FTW) Well, that and Kid Icarus getting released on the VC.

I was reading in another thread, ted, where you were talking about nintendo fanboys blindly sucking up VC games they own on a dozen other systems. I just wanted to let you know that I have spent nearly 100 bucks on VC games, and I have owned none of them.

The official message about the channel just arrived on my console, a few minutes after I had actually finished voting in the available polls. Looks like a pretty cool and unexpected channel. The official message itself even says "We're happy to announce the <i>surprise</i> launch of the Everybody Votes Channel." I guess Perrin Kaplan mentioned some surprises in (the Wii?) store for the future and I suppose this was one of em. I'm certainly surpised that was kept under wraps until ready to roll out though. Let's hope that Nintendo has even more in store for Wii owners that we still don't know about.

So far though, I'm digging the online channels. Sure there is room for improvement, but I like what Nintendo is doing so far. Online gaming is another story though. I'm eager for it to roll out. If Nintendo would just do something to make the whole friend code thing a bit better. I liked how when playing Mario Kart DS through a local wireless connection, the game would automatically add your opponents to your Wi-Fi friends list. I wish that something similar would happen, say, if you brought your Wii controller over to a friends and used it with their Wii. It should automatically transfer your friend code information via the controller, obtain theirs, and then set your own console up when you get home. I remember having a lot of trouble with a friend of mine who just lived down the street getting our parades to work together. We exchanged codes, but didn't see anything happen, or any indication that some sort of process was underway to get connected. Suddenly. the next day, we just were. That kind of experience is something that Nintendo needs to improve if they're really trying to market this to everyone. But they way they seem to be handling online gaming, if that Pokemon title is any indication..*shudder*. I can understand the 'protect the children' reasoning to a point, but not as far as to completely sabotage the user experience by making it such a huge pain in the ass to play online. Maybe they can somehow tie the online system to the ESRB rating. Then you could have something a bit more open for M rated games, and more locked down for E rated games. Just an idea..

/I have lots of them
//Give me a freakin job Nintendo!
///or anybody in the industry..

My submitted question:

Which is worse?

Red Steel or Dog shit?

I think it might get in.

@ mandlebaum

I agree wholeheartedly with you sir, as someone who has actually spent $100 on the Virtual Console so far (or had a gift card given to me). And that was prior to games like Link to the Past coming out. I may have played a few of these games at friend's houses, but I'm glad that I can finally own (technically "lease the rights," or whatever legal mumbo jumbo Nintendo has going) games like Gradius and F-Zero, while also checking out obscure stuff like Solomon's Key, which despite being difficult, is really fun. Oh, and I never actually owned a copy of Super Mario Bros., so that's good to have.

Friend codes= worse idea than invading Iraq

The question needs to be submitted, allowed, voted on and Friend codes need to die! Maybe ninty will get the message

I'm sure you all agree (you dont have to agree with my Iraq statement to agree that the codes are a part of the Coalition of Evil) Wait...

I haven't bought a game yet for the VC, I will eventually. I will inevitably get Mario 64 which will make copy/version#3
mario kart super and 64 when they come out but I still have all of my old systems so I dont really need new versions that I cant take with me anywhere I go.

Also it seems every region has different questions as the active poll questions in England are:

How do you prefer your eggs? (Boiled or Fried)
Which do you prefer? (Eating or Sleeping)
You have some free time. What do you do? (Go out and party or Stay home and relax)

Seriously, Wii sucks at online. In november, you could only go to the Wii Shop, which was the only use for online. Then they released the internet channel, which is kinda cool, but sucks at the same time, since wathing websites in 480 isn't the most interesting arround. Short after, they released the Weather, which its similarity to google earth is nice, but at the same time, is kinda useless if you can go on the internet and look at the weather if you want. Then, the news channels, that besides of the cool way you can surf the news, is kinda useless.Finaly, this new Vote channel, which even if its free and a surprise, is kinda lame...

Come on Nintendo! Where is the "Wii" channel, with all those infos on the new upcoming games, the "Trailers" channel, to watch game and movie trailers, the "Demo" channel, to play demo versions of Wii games, and why not the "DS download station" channel, which could offer downloadable demos for DS? Or at least, a "Friends" channel, to chat with your buds?

Nintendo is acting like its discovering the internet! Get an XBox360 NOW and see what you are doing Nintendo and start working on the real stuff!

Microsoft do what Ninten-don't. Or something. This channel is kind of fun, but not really.

I don't doubt at some point there will be some market research of sorts done. Most Nintendo fanboys like myself will most likely play with this thing often. But, how much info are they gonna get from questions like: Which do you prefer? Cats or Dogs.

I dunno. I wish they had fixed the weather channel to update every 15 min, included links to radars with motion, perhaps severe weather warnings...

Or, pulled the internet channel out of beta?

Or, released some more quality titles?

Or, drop the VC prices?

Ok, that last one is a pipe dream, but this seems like a lame distraction to the abomination that is WiiConnect24. And, YES, friend codes suck!

The channel could be great for consumer feedback. Unfortunately it's very limited in use by only allowing two choices.

My first question:
"What other system would you rather buy?
Xbox 360 or Playstation 3

My forehead is bleeding from pounding it against the coffee table. What a waste of resources. I agree with Niero, blatant slapping of my face with free market research.

Why waste time trying to put out online multiplayer when they can use us for free market research.

Wake up Lemmings, this is your warning bell.

Between the lack of online and lack of decent FPS bounding box I'm ready to sell this bitch. I still can't believe they're wasting time on this.
