Vote on Smithsonian's 'Art of Video Games' exhibition photo

The Smithsonian is planning the "Art of Video Games" exhibition and they'd like your input on what games to feature. Set to open on March 16, 2012 in Washington D.C., this exhibition will feature the first 40 years of gaming history. Your picks will represent the work of these first 40 years of gaming.

There's a website where you can submit your vote. You'll get the chance to help pick 80 games from a pool of 240. The wining games will be shown as video clips and screens once the exhibit opens. When it's all said and done, your picks will be shown alongside 20 game systems and features on influential game designers.

The results of the voting will be shared this May. Voting is open from February 14 through April 7 of this year. Go now!

Kudos to the Smithsonian for putting this on. Roger Ebert can suck it, God love him.

I tried voting, but apparently the Smithsonian underestimated the server load that they'd need to handle an influx of gamers from as many generations as they have to vote on.

Looks like they didn't anticipate so much traffic on their site--it's currently down.

I wish I could go see the exhibit when it opens :(

Wow this is a really great idea. Never thought I'd see something like this. I'll definitely have to keep an eye on that site for when it comes back up.

I got to vote on Era 1 and 2 but the rest wouldn't load for me. Which is a bummer because I was really looking forward seeing the nominees for other eras.
Oh well. Time to refresh throughout the day.

This is a really intelligent selection of games they have here. I just really hope that Psychonauts makes the cut instead of Halo 2. Imagine, Psychonauts finding its place into the Smithsonian. Called it.

So an overblown 'underrated' game that exists purely for hipster gamers to trot out as an excuse of storytelling over substance deserves a spot more than a game that pioneered online console-based gaming AND has one of the few storylines in video games good enough to be a saga?

Made my votes. I don't like that in each category they only let you vote for one game in each genre. It resulted in some really heart wrenching choices.

Half Life 2 or Portal?

Grim Fandango or Fallout?

Adventure or Pitfall?

How can a person be expected to make such choices?

So because you don't like Pyschonauts, anyone who does is some kind of poser? Funny and here I thought it was just a relatively obscure little game I enjoyed the hell out of, I never new what a horrible person I truly was! I have seen the light!

You know something, I don't get why so many people like Halo, which I personally find to be an utterly generic and bland FPS series, but you won't see me insulting people who do, or insinuating nasty things about them. We all have different tastes. We play the games that make us happy and talk them up when the opportunity arises and hope others will recognize them and enjoy them as we have.

Grow up, son.
