Next week on Destructoid, we'll be looking back at the very best games of 2011. Each day we'll be featuring a different theme, culminating with the reveal of our official Destructoid Game of the Year 2011 award on Monday, December 19!
While staff members have already made their voices heard behind the scenes, we're equally interested in hearing what you have to say! For this reason, we're dedicating next Tuesday to our first ever Destructoid Game of the Year Community Choice award!
To take part in this momentous occasion, all you need to do is fill out the poll below! You have from now until Sunday at 11:59 PM PST to argue amongst yourselves and vote for your favorites, after which the poll will be closed and the votes tallied.
So what are you waiting for? Hit the jump and let your voice be heard!
To vote, simply click on one of the games below! If you don't see your favorite game on the list, fill in the blank at the bottom!
(Disclaimer: The games listed above were selected based on their high aggregate review scores, and are not necessarily representative of how our editors are voting. Basically, Polldaddy wouldn't let us do a 100% fill-in-the-blank poll, so we had to put something up there. Please don't hesitate to fill in the blank with your own choice!)
I'm gonna get flamed for this, but in ten years people will still be talking about one game this year, and that game is Minecraft. Skyrim is an awesome game, but Minecraft has fundamentally changed an entire paradigm all by its lonesome. I like Skyrim more, but I just think Minecraft will be a big deal long after Skyrim has receded back into the ether.
I agree with Liquidjudo. MW3 is fun, but I don't nominate it. I love skyrim too, despite the fact bethesda is horrid at story telling and their engine sucks ass, but it's better than everything else. Skyrim FTW
I should probably hand in my "gamer card" considering the fact that the only game on this list I've played so far is Portal 2. I was going to vote for it anyways (it's in my Top 10 favourite games) but really didn't realize how few games I've played this year. Well, new games to say the least.
seriously it's been a long time since i replayed a game(Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3; played them countless times)
i would have voted for Catherine but i haven't even opened it yet(Love is Over Edition) damn you summer school!!!!!!!
and i barely started on Dark Souls(despite being a very very strong contender for GOTY) my brother loved it though.
Uncharted 3 was a disappointing since it lacked many of the series features(Cheats) no more intense high action pack scenes(except a few don't want to spoil you) and little to no bosses at all. plus it really deceived me thinking it would be a huge improvement(much like UC1-UC2)
still an awesome and very strong game though. if they delayed this till next year Nov 2012 it would be a strong contender :P
i would have also pick MGS HD Collection, but i think Deus Ex deserves it this year.
so yeah thank you Eidos Montreal for making a very strong and well played game.
hopefully the next Deus Ex would an option to be fully 3rd person or first person.
no thanks to Skyrim after the mess the game turns into after 40+ hours with the memory leak, patch making it worse and it not just PS3 , xbox and pc are starting to notice trouble the longer you play it.
DARK SOULS might had blightown FPS issue but game doesn't become unplayable
Of course, Skyrim. Everyone had their fun with MW3 and Uncharted 3 and so on. But Skyrim is the gift that keeps on going. It's like the mother fucking Energizer Bunny.
I know that its not going to be popular but I was actually let down by Skyward sword, it got tedious to play near the end.
I ended up going Minecraft because I played more of that than any of the others (and it was the only indie well maybe Infinity Blade II ... but I haven't played it so) but it was really hard not going Portal2.
This looks like it'll be a total wash. Skyrim is already at 26%. Jeez.
Anyways, I voted for Batman. Most fun I've had with a game this year, hands down, so that was an obvious choice. Maybe if I'd already finished Zelda I'd have picked that, although I don't like the Silent Realm stuff. Ah well.
Oh hey, NBC. I thought about your decision to bench Community, and it can only be described in one way:
Skyward Sword has way too many flaws to be considered my GOTY.
Skyrim has flaws as well, but those are bugs - not inherent gameplay flaws that can't be patched out. Even though Dark Souls is my GOTY, I wouldn't be upset if either Skyrim or Arkham City won - all great games.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm really loving Skyrim, but i also loved Portal 2, Deus Ex, LA Noire and Dead Space. So it's really a tough choice here
Skyrim will win both
I totally forgot LBP2 came out this year....
Deciding between Zelda and Skyrim. Gimmie a couple more days with Zelda to be sure.
I agree with Liquidjudo. MW3 is fun, but I don't nominate it. I love skyrim too, despite the fact bethesda is horrid at story telling and their engine sucks ass, but it's better than everything else. Skyrim FTW
I also voted for Ghost Trick in the "other" section. Maybe if enough people mention it in the comments, it's gonna get a place in the poll?
FUCK YOU NBC
Don't hate!

Catherine!
Don't get me wrong, I throroughly enjoyed most of the titles, but the lack of innovation is to be mourned, imho.

(I just wanted to shoe-horn that gif in somehow.)

Otherwise I couldn't really be forced to choose the games that left the strongest impression on me this year were:
Skyrim
Zelda: Skyward Sword
Portal 2
Catherine
Dark Souls
Bit.Trip Saga/Complete
Sword and Sworcery
Super Mario 3D Land
Yay I'm not the only one ^^
