They already view you purchasing used or lending games to people as theft/infringement anyhow so just save the money and torrent that shit.
I have zero interest in the used market and I don't participate in it in any way but I just can't stand this holier-than-thou bullshit where this industry seems to think that it's fully exempt from secondary markets. I mean 'cause fuck the history of commerce! Right?
Maybe I'll seed some Volition games today hmmm...
Frankly, it is somewhat insulting that ANY individual working within the industry would ever be so ignorant to this reality; let alone speak out on it in such a way. Trading games is simply ingrained in the industry; whether it be lending amongst friends, or the businesses that largely survive on their championing of second-hand ownership. It is an open-handed slap in the face to every gamer that has put down their hard-earned cash, or even simply borrowed, a used game (read: everyone), and certainly may have only experienced a developer's title because of the flexibility used gaming offers.
If the consoles took the Steam approach and had games at HUGE discounts a year after release, it wouldn't be as big of a problem.
But we all know they won't do that. They'll just fuck people over and offer them at the "discount" price of $49.99
Dear Mr. Durall: whatever shitty game you made, did you only make it available for online purchase? No? Then shut the fuck up. And don't tell me about "my publisher" blah blah blah because you chose your publisher.
If you can't afford a game brand new, something tells me you have to get your fucking PRIORITIES STRAIGHT. Get a better job, GET A JOB AT ALL, get your mommy to raise your allowance, ETC. But don't point the blame at anyone other than YOURSELF.
If used games are causing your bottom line THAT much harm, then maybe you should explore avenues that keep your development costs down, or do some research into the cost/benefit of changing the pricing on new releases and DLC, instead of just slapping a $60 price tag on everything and calling it a day.
Maybe.
Here's a thought. Maybe if you guys didn't enter a race to the bottom, pouring more and more money into "AAA" games that cost more and more money to produce until that was the only kind of game you could afford to make, you wouldn't be in this position. You were so obsessed with growth that you focused on anything that promised short term gain, and didn't put half a fuck's worth of thought into how sustainable your business model was.
And now we, the gamers, are the ones that have to bail you out? We have to pay the price because you decided short term profit was more important than long term stability? Fuck that, I'd rather play creatively diverse indie games made by passionate designers than buy into the industry's lust for more money. Me? I just want to watch the world burn.
Translation: "Consumers will resist us at first. They will kick and scream while we drag them into the dark alley but eventually they'll realize that daddy need his fun too and that they aren't going to die from having their ass ravaged."
Holy Toledo! Agreed. This hugeeeeeeeeee expensive, big-budget gaming is what is killing the industry. Seriously. When it has gotten to a point that you have to sell millions, upon millions, of copies just to turn a profit, enough! It has squashed gaming into this barren wasteland of generic gameplay and toss away stories, all in the interest of maximizing consumer base. It is sad to realize just how little we have actually grown since the old Atari and NES days.
"low-form trolling" isnt amusing anyone but you so wipe the poo off yer hands treat the keyboard and yer time with a little more respect.
Kay. I won't. Love you. Kisses.
I had hopes for you Volition. SR3 killed them, and now this is burying those hopes in an unmarked grave.
Also, why is the gaming industry apparently the only business that is allowed to bitch incessantly about secondhand use? I don't see Hollywood or Stephen King throwing a shit fit when someone buys or borrows their work from a friend.
I swear that game publishers have to be the most entitled people on the planet.
I just *know* what the next step is going to be. A mandatory license authentication whenever you go into multiplayer with someone. Want to play split screen? Too bad, your buddy has to buy the game himself first.
Now if you will excuse, I'm just gonna go over there and run for my life.
Now if you will excuse, I'm just gonna go over there and run for my life.
Am I the only one required to pay for games? You selfish fucks, why am I the one that has to pay?
Somehow, I have no problem with Gamestop getting screwed for once. We get treated to garbage like online passes and Day 1 DLC largely because of them.
this guy seems to forget that the world is in a reccession and that entertainment goods are a luxuray, not a need. If one is on a tight budget, one will get cheap entertainment or no entertainment at all to pay the bills that are actually important
After all, if you aren't free to resell it, it isn't technically yours, right? So then it must belong to the person who originally created it... right?
