Voice chat is returning to Sony's Home today photo

Sony’s revolutionary dance party simulator (Home) has been experiencing some connectivity problems since its open beta launch last week. Because of the problems, Sony added facial hair to the customization options and disbanded voice chat. Today, Sony is giving back users the ability to speak in personal places and clubhouses.

Update 1.05 won’t add any new buildings or restructure the Central Plaza but it should allow users to better coordinate conga lines in their clubhouses. It is commonly conveyed to us that text chat is hard to bring up when in the heat of a good groove or if there is a pretty virtual woman around that needs proper swooning.

The reintroduction of voice chat will not help people who want to scream vulgarities while others wait in line to play arcade machines.

Home is such a terrible idea. I really want to know what the fuck Sony is thinking.

Voice chat will only be allowed in your clubhouses and personal space, nowhere else.

Home just plain confuses me. Strangers dont annoy me in real life most days anyway. Why would I want virtual hassle. "So what do you do in here", "eh...", "well?", "you can walk around and see ....stuff".

lol I find it entertaining how all the virtual people interact at home:

Sausage Party + 10 Vgirls = desperate hit-on fest

I sometimes interrupt guys trying to hit on the girls and say: "Haiiiiii papi!" just to mess with them lol.

Home is just starting, im sure when they start adding game worlds in it, and interactive play-meetings b4 the game starts it will be useful. Specially for FPS strag games or LBP.

Honestly it's purely an OK feature maybe not even that. Thankfully I have a keyboard, but it's impossible to find anyone else with one and it's basically like talking to retards, with their 3 minute pauses.

I'd rather not have crap screamed at me when I'm not even playing a game tbh.

They really need to disable the voice chat and make it p2p only.I hate hearing senseless racial slurs all the time.

Aww comon Guys! Sony's trying...now why don't we all "try" to go out and drop $400 on them in these worsening economic times...just so that they can routinely do whatever they chose while ignoring the cries of those customers they already suckered $600 from? -Brought to you by the Sony Defense Farce-

Shonuff dont forget the 150$ to fix RROD and another $200 for second 360 while the first one is getting fix. I heard this is a norm now. :)

Yeah they did, lol. You're right. In fact, what they said made more sense to me, because it actually happened to my family. Once my uncle found out the arcade pack was not the complete deal, he dropped the whole thing and just bought a PS3. And he's a dumb redneck, so chances are, people who are way smarter are probably doing the math right now.

All I'm saying is, don't bash the PS3 and then not expect people to offer a different perspective. And when they do give an argument, laughing and saying "you got me" does not make your side of the debate look any more appealing. There are 2 sides to the story.

I actually went around and experienced Home the other day. I checked out all the arcade games at the bowling alley. They ruined Echochrome. Being able to watch trailers and junk on the screens as you wander around is kind of cool.

But sadly, the most fun came when I found a group of douchebags standing around some chick who is probably a dude/douchbag.

So I walked up to the crowd and said "douchebags" and told them I hated them all...It dispersed the crowd! So I won that battle! But they...those worthless creatures...they gathered somewhere else...

Oh please...my post was a joke at Sony’s expense and a little something to rile Sony fans (cuz we all know how thin your skin is)...but the honest fact of the matter is I don't have to bash Sony because their fans are doing it better than I or anyone else ever could.

Yes the red rings are a problem (I have had one such episode and I have been here since launch...by-the-by my replacement cost me nothing...but time), but with Netflickies I can get rid of my cable (saving good cash allowing to buy even more 360 games!) and eventually I’ll watch movies with “friends” online…Sony fans make crack-up when they “poo-poo” voice chat and silly things like friend’s lists….you know you want those features...stop towing Sony’s line and demand that they pony up.

The number of people buying 360’s (check the latest console sales data) and their compliment of games demonstrates that MS (as flawed and maligned as they may be) get what it is that gamers want. While Sony, seems disconnected (just like your online experience…*snicker*)….If you really believe that the RROD has dissuaded 360 owners from taking advantage of MS’ console and Xbox Live then you are as out of touch with reality as Sony is…also, you should try not to insult or diminish your family because it reflects on you….if they are dumb then you are likely dumb also…genetics.

Dude, I'm not even good read the whole xbox commercial you just typed out. I'm not into the console war thing. I'm happy with what I have. I just stepped in to say that if youre gonna come on a post and bash a system, don't act all smug when someone has a retort. I'm tired of people on this site thinking its ok to bash some shit and then calling someone a fanboy if they offer a different perspective. Remember, YOU started it. If you're gonna start a debate about a system, then finish it.

But if you're saying that you weren't starting a debate, that you were just saying that stuff to get under people's skin, for no other reason than to piss people off, and you had no backup argument, well, unfortunately that makes you sound like a troll.

So which is it? Are you an annoying troll or are you a fanboy fighting some dumbass console war that only fanboys give a shit about? Either way, talking to you makes my workday go by a little quicker, and I thank you for that. Happy yule.

Wow...I started it so I should finish it? Sure...I guess I can go back to fifth grade...

I expressed my opinion in my 1st response although it was laced with sarcasm...and I responded to your more directed retort with more of the same...I can understand being a fan of anything, but Sony fans may be better served by actually holding Sony's feet to the fire instead of making excuses for not wanting a particular feature.

Racist voice chat or vulgar language (also a problem on LIVE) is NOT a valid reason for limiting service. This problem can easily be overcome with a muting or blocking feature as is the case on LIVE. I am not certain if this can be done on PSN, but from the tenor of the posts here...these Sony fans seem OK with sacrificing communication altogether…just because there are idiots on the lose out there in the big bad world. Really?!?! How does someone with that attitude even go outside on a daily basis? Communication is very important to online gameplay and by all accounts seems to be the direction of gaming for the immediate future.

Sony seems to be having problems implementing service functionality. As fans, you have a choice…be complacent or make your wants known. Did I articulate my opinion well enough for you? Hopefully you read it this time. LOL

HahhahA! nice try, but with sony being so cash poor lately their blockade columbia pictures won't last much longer....and there is that pesky consideration that as a gamer...i actually would like some games to play! Hahhaha!

As an adult with the ability to reason...I take into account the fluctuations of markets and their affect on the things I enjoy. Games r cool but ya can't live in a bubble...I also suggest you research just how many movies columbia has put out...it ain't just ghostbusters! LOL

You should stop trying...

I don't get the 5th grade reference, but whatever, we're making progress so who cares!

See, now you made a good point without being a troll about it. Instead of trying to sell a system, or bash one, you just made a point that had to do with the post!

And guess what, I agree! You're right, they should have implemented a mute function instead of stripping it. But also you are assuming they won't give one in the future.

As has been the case, usually if we bitch, they listen. And if the majority want voicechat back with a mute feature, I'm sure they will comply. It's all about majority, I guess. Personally, I could care less. I use the chatpad. People bitched about voice chat, look how fast they took it out. If they say they want it back with a mute, I'm sure we'll get it. It's the same with LBP. Theyve been quick to address everything weve complained about, and the game is better for it. We've seen this kind of thing with the xmedia bar, the soundtracks, trophies, even the web browser with improving streaming media (hulu, mostly, which I dig).

So I guess I would say, I agree, but also that I think the majority will be given what they want, whether it is no voice chat in open areas, or muted.

Backpedal? The only reason they aren't there is because Sony is blocking the content....which due to their being "cash poor" (remember where you read that?) won't last much longer. Keep up son...

The fifth grade ref was in regard to, "Remember, YOU started it. If you're gonna start a debate about a system, then finish it." It reminded me of grade school...not important any longer.

Good to see u agree....u should spread the word among other beta tester (if you are in fact one) maybe you guys will get what you want. As far as troll...that doesn’t bother me. The community (gaming and beyond) has become so complacent and vacuous...I'd rather be known for shaking trees.

Yeah, I've been in the beta since before it was open. So I've seen it grow and whatnot. The funny thing is, for something that is really just a free, optional system function, that is there when or if you need it, it gets a ton of press. But I guess that is because people like talking about it.

And as far as trolling goes. Don't romanticize it! LOL. I don't think it has anything to do with shaking the trees so much as hanging out in the trees and being a huge douche.

Home is such an awful idea anyway that it'd be a step forward to limit the service. Its still in its beta form, and now being open to the public, Sony should really take into account the goings on around their Home and turn the final product into something more; first step being making it less of an offensive playground for kids.

I still cant see how on earth the Home idea can ever amount to anything from what it was before; the only things to do if you log on are either online chess or spontaneous greifing. Its very welcome to limit a service that both is only a grounds for trouble, and a completely unnecessary experience in the first place.
