*10% discount which is a start but still pretty poor
*A great screen, hampered by the non-native resolutions of the (launch) games
*Sticks which may or may not control like ass
*Insane memory-card prices
*Poor battery life (as to be expected)
Hmm, I dunno guys but I'm still not completely sold on this one. A friend of mine is getting this on launch so I'll be sure to check it out. But still, even if it plays excellent I might hold out until a year from launch or so. And well I'm just shocked by the low-res comments, that really should be a big no-no on a portable system!
A physical copy is future-proof...when I am old and toothless, I can't rely on my PSN Live Shopping Channel account to still be intact.
If Sony does things like Valve with great sales, pre-installations for pre-ordered games, and the like, it will destroy the physical games market, and really there's no problem with that from me. I have enough disks sitting on my shelf that will break eventually, my digital games will never break, and like my digital PSP games that I bought, they'll be playable on different devices.
Wrong. First of all the reason people like physical is because....they fucking like something in physical form, they like collecting their games and what not, it's a hard concept to grasp I know, but maybe one day you'll get it. Second is the fact that Sony is most certainly not doing things right, considering that memory card prices are through the roof, and the games themselves take away to much memory, hell I would barely fit 5 of my games from psn into a 30 dollar product, and those are decade old games, I can only imagine how big newer titles are.
Physical will never bow out, mind you I'm not against DD like many close minded gamers, but even so, there is nothing stupid about wanting to physically own a product, and if anything I would love to hear something against it in a more descriptive manner from yourself.
One platform holder, has made the bold and brave decision to undercut the physical retail business, no doubt massively pissing off many retail partners, in order to help usher in the digital era. In a world where the digital option for full, proper games is absolutely ridiculous!
And all you can say is "wah wah wah fucking expensive memory cards"
Sometimes you guys can suck pretty hard.
If you don't want to buy an expensive memory card, you know what you need to do? - You just need to NOT HAVE A VITA AT LAUNCH. Man up. Either pay your money or wait for the innevitable price drop on the memory.
Jebus guys, nut up.
Sure, I'll wait until the inevitable third-party cards come along, but it's nonetheless a kick in the balls when you can't even use your Vita to it's fullest potential because you have a tiny, tiny card.
Why *shouldn't* people be butt hurt in an age where you can buy 30GB's of wholesome SDHC goodness for pennies, yet Sony forces a proprietary format down our throats...
...AGAIN.
All we know is the price. I'm failry sure (but wouldn't put money on it) that they're not just SD cards with a Sony logo on them.
I'm not angry, I'm disappointed. it seems if "sony" is mentioned, a lot of you guys can turn a positive OPTION into some kind of fucking crime.
As with all new memory types/formats - they cost more at first then get cheaper.
As i say, Sony is the only console company that is willing to take the big step of pricing digital lower than physical and that is nothing but a good thing.
don't like it? Buy physical for 10% more. Or don't buy a Vita yet.
No one is forcing you to buy a Vita, or a memory card or digital games. The options are all yours people.
I think people just decide "it's too much for me" then get all butthurt that they can't have one at launch and have to reassure themselves that they are only missing out on something rubbish anyway.
If you care that much about £50 on a memory card, perhaps just wait till they're cheaper, hell, get a pre-owned Vita with games and a memory card in like a year or so. Just don't try to shit on it for the rest of us to ease your own butthurt.
I was having the same thought. Plenty of the same people pissing and moaning about this are the same people who cry foul over an online pass, and promise to buy the game used saving themselves 10% at the most.
The cost of the memory is still an absurd problem. I'll probably hold off on a Vita for at least a year or so. Sony should be ashamed of the memory stick issue -- there's just no reason for it to be so damned expensive.
You give Sony far to much credit on the sales and PSN front. While not steam in terms of deals, they do a fair amount. It could be much better.
@sexualChocolate
I do give them credit for trying to go digital at a discount and potentially giving retail problems. There is a retail market to still have on digital goods. See PSN cards, and download cards for specific games. If they give the retailer enough profit, they can still have partners in a digital world.
Yeah, I was happy, real happy, till I did the math and came up with the same numbers.
Sadly I don't think they're going to drop the 32gb price, at least not any time soon. But I urge you to find ways to make it cheaper on you, like using Bing Points for amazon gift cards or something. Thats how I'm paying down my Vita (well that and other ways) so I can get more from it.
Or we can hope that Dale's wish that SanDisk will made a cheaper card comes true, cause I'd certainly jump on that.
Games such as Escape Plan and Sound Shapes[/i] will be very cheap and the file sizes might average out to be very small. The indy game strategy could play out well for those looking to extend the gameplay out of the Vita without needing to spend more money on memory cards or waiting for a couple of MB or GB's to download from the PSN.
