Visceral hiring folks for Dante's Inferno sequel? photo

Considering the relative success of Dante's Inferno (both commercially and for the most part, critically), it's not surprising to guess that Visceral Games might be working on a follow up. But a job listing making the rounds now makes it all the more obvious.

The studio is currently seeking a level designer for "the sequel to a major new IP at the award-winning Visceral Games." More hints that it's a Dante's Inferno follow-up? "The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre." Yup, that sounds about right.

Since prior to the game's release, the game's producer Jonathan Knight had openly discussed that he had ideas for a sequel. In fact, from what I could gather while doing early previews of the title, it had already been mapped out or at least seriously discussed.

As a fan of the first game (I know, I may be in the minority here), I'm looking forward to seeing Visceral taking it to the next level. "Purgatorio" anyone?

Lead level designer [EA Jobs]

Stoked on this. I think they could probably turn this series into a Trilogy. I believe that in the Divine Comedy, Dante goes through Hell, Purgatory, AND Heaven. I think it'd be pretty sweet to just fight through Heaven for some reason.

How the hell (HA) do you make a sequel to something like this? I know it was more or less loosely based off the poem but what, is he going to have a bastard son and he has to go back because of some plot twist or another?

I loved the first one but it was a bit short and some of the levels were a bit short.
hopeful it will be better and continue to use the same great game play mechanics.

Dante's Purgatorio, YES PLEASE! I loved Dante's Inferno. No one is going to call it the most original game of our time considering it had a story taken from 700 years ago and gameplay taken from 5 years ago, but it was still a hell of a lot of fun. I think a sequel with more money spent on tarting it up than marketing it would go a LOOOONG way.

We need more videogames directly adaptated from works of literature.

They would have to make A LOT of changes before I could get excited for this.

Dante in Purgatory sounds like an awful idea.

Cato: Well, its not bad here, but its not great ether.
Dante: Beatriccccceeeeeee!!!!
Cato: Hey you shouldn't go that way, hello? Sir? What an average fellow.

Old, this was posted on Rely on Horror a while ago, but still sounds like we know what Visceral is working on next.

Didn't this game sell like crap? It sold a million units across all three platforms, but it didn't really sell all that well on any one particular system. Do games like this, really need a sequel?

God I'm happy I gamefly'd this and didn't buy it. I beat everything including the gates of hell gauntlet in about 9 hours. I would have been plenty pissed had I spent 60 bucks on it.

Not a bad game if you like the bayonetta and devil may cry beat em up genre, but really not anything all that great either...

This game is a poor man's God of War 1 2 and 3.

Seriously, Dante's Inferno was nothing but a placeholder for me while I waited for God of War 3. So unless they seriously step it up for the second game, it was pretty crappy.

Visceral games was aiming for "god-like" gameplay, but the entire game felt sloppy. It just didn't have the same quality of Dead Space, which was disappointing since that is one of my favorite games this generation. Hope they can get it right next time, even though I wish they would move on to something else. It was decent.

I think this was a no brainer considering that the game only covered a part of the "source material" and to anyone that saw the ending. I liked Dante's Inferno, it was a solid title and i'm interested in the sequel.

Other than the not-a-level that was Fraud, I really enjoyed the first game. A sequel is definitely something I would be interested in.

A number 2- obviously...much more to take from the source materail, and it is based on it, and it did say "to be continued".. But despite that, the game was in my book a 7 out of 10, good.. But a lot of improvements to be made to make it an excellent game. Needs Weapons galore, graphics improved, environments improved-hell could have been more diverse and scarier.
