It blows my mind to think that it was only a few months ago that WiiWare launched and I had a newfound hope for the rate of usage the console would see in my home. In fact, I had actual hope for more unique titles, as I allowed LostWinds and My Life As A King to set the bar high. What do we get this week, ladies and gents?

Magnetica Twist (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for EveryoneComic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points), which is more or less Zuma with Miis in it. You could spend a thousand points on this, or you could go to Yahoo games and play Zuma for free. Your choice.

Virtual Console lovers may be pleased to see Fatal Fury 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for TeenAnimated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points) this week, which pits you up against five new opponents in the sequel to the classic original arcade game. If you like fighters, grab this one for sure -- I had a lot of fun with it back in the day.

Are you disappointed in where WiiWare seems to be headed, or do you still hold out hope that more innovative games are on the way down the pipeline?

One WiiWare Game and One Virtual Console Game Added to Wii Shop Channel

You want fireworks? Look no further than the Wii Shop Channel, where vibrant bursts of classic gaming action and fresh WiiWare content will help fill your living room with a flurry of ooohs and ahhhs. Puzzle-game mavens can enjoy a wild new addition to the WiiWare library, while the Virtual Console brings a truly classic fighting game to the fore. For an added holiday-week blast, fans of the WiiWare hit FINAL FANTASY® CRYSTAL CHRONICLES®: My Life as a King can enhance the action with new Add-On Content.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Magnetica Twist (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for EveryoneComic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points): The classic puzzle game Magnetica is now available on WiiWare , putting its own unique "twist" on the puzzle-game experience. You're surrounded by marbles, marching slowly but surely down a track. Use a launcher (piloted by a Mii of your choice) to shoot marbles with matching colors and wipe them out before they reach the end of the track. Control couldn't be simpler, as all you need to do is twist the Wii Remote controller to aim and press the A button to shoot. And the game play remains as addictive and deep as you've come to expect in Nintendo's puzzle games, with five varied play modes, advanced mechanics such as the ability to lob marbles, and a never-ending supply of combos. This definitely isn't your typical game of marbles.

Virtual Console

FATAL FURY 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for TeenAnimated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1992 by SNK, FATAL FURY 2 is the second installment in the renowned fighting-game series. In addition to Terry, Andy and Joe, who appeared in the original game, another five distinctive fighters gather from around the world to compete for the championship title. Also newly added are stage-specific hazards and the ability to perform desperation attacks when a character's strength is low. These particularly deadly techniques create the chance for a come-from-behind victory achieved with a single strike. Moreover, the innovative two-line battle, which proved popular in the previous version, also has been radically enhanced. Pressing the weak-attack and strong-attack buttons simultaneously enables players to move their fighters to another line themselves, or to launch an attack that pushes opponents back to another line. This game mechanic, unique to this title in the series, allows the player to take advantage of the depth of the screen and create even more exciting bouts. Can you prove yourself the king of fighters again?

Well, World of Goo isn't released yet, so i'm faithful that WiiWare still have some cards to play.

And i know that some independent retailers aren't going to disapoint us with some nice indie games *points Luc Bernard*

Why Eternity's Child isn't going to be on WiiWare Why ;_;?

There's a few things that have me on the fence on whether to throwdown cash or not. Gyrostarr, prototheta, Doc Mario Rx (I didn't like the original *that* much).

Though, I feel like its no less a wonderland for indie awesome than XBLA is. N+ is the best indie thing I've bought off Live, and all these other awesomethings (Braid, that samurai game) have yet to materialize.

I think added content/patch for MLAAK is worth mentioning, even though the press release glosses over it. Adding some gameplay extending additions, a new outfit (guh), and some updates to the core game (new buildings, I think, from patch as well as some scoring changes.)

It's too early to get upset over WiiWare. It's only been active for a few weeks and it's provided some really great games. We know that there are more good games coming... World of Goo, Mega Man 9, LostWinds, Space Invaders Get Even, Alien Crush and Strong Bad are all coming soon. XBLA arcade has been around much longer and has not nearly been as good as the VC/WiiWare combo. If Nintendo creates the much-needed storage solution, we'll see even more exciting things from WiiWare.

Magnetica (and Zuma) are both based off Puzzloop, an old Williams arcade game from the early 90s.

So there, stop calling every game like this a Zuma clone. I don't know why but its getting annoying now. If anything, get annoyed about Magnetica Wii being a DS port.

I'm with nilcam. It seems a little premature to worry about the service at this point. The VC on the other hand....

There's a lot of stuff in the pipeline I'm excited about... but until they do something about the storage, I'll probably be skipping out on most of it.

I read the title as "Puzzles of Furry" the first time through. I need to find a camera that can detect when I make crazy, shocked faces and record them to show everyone. I'm sure it would have been both amusing and enlightening.

I totally agree with you. These cloning accusations bother me too. I was playing Bust-A-Move one day and my friend walked in and said "oh this is just a rip-off of Snood"... I then punched him in the face...

Also, I read that Magnetica was developed by the same people as PuzzLoop, so... its kinda the original series and not a clone at all... kinda...
