Old Nintendo commericals are the best thing since watching Jim Sterling scream obscenities in a hot tub in Cancun. Unlike Jim, they lack true wit and class, which kind of ages them in such a way that they're ten times as hilarious now as they were at the time of their release. (At that time I may have liked them, but considering that I was eight at the time, it's excusable.) The zombie sounds the kids make at the end are priceless though.

Yoshi's Cookie (NES(R), 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points) hits this week, which is the game shown in the commercial above. Its basically a puzzle game where you match groups pf cookies together in order to complete levels. It looks like a child's game at first, but check out YouTube for some two player action that brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "lightning fast."

Second up for this week is Bases Loaded (NES(R), 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii
Points), which I remember from my NES days but frankly never played. Luckily I had male friends that did, so I know that this game rests fondly in many a gamer's memory despite how it looks next to modern sports titles. Check after the jump for some video of this one. Something about that bleepy NES era music always puts a smile on my face.

Worth a download? Or are you holding your breath for this week's Xbox Live release instead?

Ya know, I might just grab cookie. I was rather fond of that game.

Don't ask why, I was probably stoned at the time.

I'm happy for this week because it means I might be able to buy Hoops one day.

A basketball game with takes-it-self-maybe-a-little-too-seriously, Animal House style epilouges for each character (Yep, a basketball game with original characters). Epic win.

I always hated those puzzle games based on mario, sonic or street fighter. They always had nice art and made me think it was some cool new sidescrolling game. Then I get some shit puzzle game.

Bases Loaded was awesome (Hawaii, woo!).

With that said, RBI Baseball still stands as the greatest baseball game ever created.

Yoshi's Cookie was really fun. There is an epic collection of puzzle scenarios to solve within a desgnated number of moves.

Proud day in my youth when I finally got past that last set of stages.

I think i had bases loaded, but it was my second favorite nes baseball game. This week gets a meh, which seems to be a recurring theme to me lately

I don't get why they seem to pretend the SNES version of Yoshi's Cookie didn't exist.

Was the NES version just better?

I would get Yoshi's Cookie, but think I should wait until they get the SNES version on the VC.

Yep, it was just like that but with more screaming and usage of the word "cunt." :)

I used to enjoy Yoshi's Cookie quite often. Also, Yoshi, it's puzzle predecessor. And Tetris Attack, another Yoshi puzzle game. Yoshi's good at those puzzle games.

Also, is that the patented Fat Guy In A T-Shirt maneuver often employed by overweight gentlemen when swimming or bathing in public? I am familiar with it.

Hmmm. Another downer week for me. :( I really want to buy more VC games, but nothing is appealing to me lately! I don't think I've grabbed a single one in the last three weeks, and this is coming from someone who has somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 titles under my belt - I'm not exactly the pickiest of retro-gamers.

Either way, thanks for the heads up on what's new. I hope next week is better!
