Old Nintendo commericals are the best thing since watching
Jim Sterling scream obscenities in a hot tub in Cancun. Unlike Jim, they lack true wit and class, which kind of ages them in such a way that they're ten times as hilarious now as they were at the time of their release. (At that time I may have liked them, but considering that I was eight at the time, it's excusable.) The zombie sounds the kids make at the end are priceless though.
Yoshi's Cookie (NES(R), 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points) hits this week, which is the game shown in the commercial above. Its basically a puzzle game where you match groups pf cookies together in order to complete levels. It looks like a child's game at first, but check out
YouTube for some two player action that brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "lightning fast."
Second up for this week is Bases Loaded (NES(R), 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii
Points), which I remember from my NES days but frankly never played. Luckily I had male friends that did, so I know that this game rests fondly in many a gamer's memory despite how it looks next to modern sports titles. Check after the jump for some video of this one. Something about that bleepy NES era music always puts a smile on my face.
Worth a download? Or are you holding your breath for this week's
Xbox Live release instead?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Don't ask why, I was probably stoned at the time.
A basketball game with takes-it-self-maybe-a-little-too-seriously, Animal House style epilouges for each character (Yep, a basketball game with original characters). Epic win.
With that said, RBI Baseball still stands as the greatest baseball game ever created.
Proud day in my youth when I finally got past that last set of stages.
Was the NES version just better?
Like this?
Also, is that the patented Fat Guy In A T-Shirt maneuver often employed by overweight gentlemen when swimming or bathing in public? I am familiar with it.
Every year.
Either way, thanks for the heads up on what's new. I hope next week is better!
