Virtua Fighter 5 to come to U.S. arcades photo

Just when you thought that arcade gaming was dying, Arcade Heroes catches word that 3D fighter Virtua Fighter 5 will be coming to arcades in the United States, going head-to-head with the upcoming Tekken 6 from Namco.

Sega's Virtua Fighter 5 is already available as a PS3 title, and it will soon be out for the Xbox 360, but this holiday season gamers can show off their moves in public when it hits arcades.  It is also reported that the cabinet will receive the same flat-screen high-definition monitor that the Japanese cabinet has.

I was a t a Dave & Buster's over the weekend. I was surprised at how many "arcade" games now-a-days are just home console games thrown into an arcade cabinet. Kind of defeats the purpose of going to an arcade if you have to pay to play the same exact game that you already own at home.

Rhoq - I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if Vf5 isn't just a ps3 board or something similar.

There are no US arcades. They're a myth, like white Jesus.

You guys STILL don't have VF5? I mean, I despise the series, but it's been out here in Japan for a while already! Like, if I wanted to play it, I would, but I don't, so I...don't. But if I couldn't I would want to. I'm still a fucking kid.

Don't US arcades only exist in those "middle of nowhere" kind of places? Oh, well Tekken is going to get it's ass handed to it.

Despite VF already being on the PS3, nothing beats the arcade experience. Its too bad that America arcades don't exist anymore. Oh well at least I could relive some memories of my time in Japan.

Nowadays I only go to arcades to play DDR and other music games... Although I still have some memory cards for Tekken 5 and Initial D, I guess I could use them once in a while. Time to go rack up a few more losses!

Out here in Seattle, we jus' got the US VF5 cab. S'pretty much exactly how I remember it when I was in Japan in January. There are a few differences worth noting; varying from interesting to total suckage.

-Machine shares the same form factor of the JP VF5 cab (IIRC).
-The techs reported that it only has one Lindberg board inside.
-There are two places, on each side, for sticks and buttons. The JP cab only has one, on each side, located dead center.
-I could find no Card slots or card dispensers.
-I see no wireless transmission mode/ network mode.
-I saw no character customization mode or options.
-I could not find which version the US VF5 Arcade is.

Hope that helps. The game plays wonderfully. Sanwa sticks are perfect for it. I'mma 'ave to pick up a PS3 compatible stick once I get a PS3, I found that I don't play nearly as well on a controller.
