Virtua Fighter 5 goes gold, baby photo

Fight fans, are you ready? SEGA just sent word that their much-wanted Virtua Fighter 5 for the PlayStation 3 has now gone gold and will be available to buy on Feb. 20. Details on the game from the release:

Virtua Fighter 5 brings the 3D fighting game genre to the next level making it the perfect arcade conversion with an all new Quest Mode, character customization options, two new characters, commentary feature and stunning high quality fighting environments.  The Quest Mode allows players to compete in various arcades to win prize money to buy items and fully customize each character. Two new characters, Eileen and El Blaze, round out the roster to 17 dynamic and different characters.  Eileen uses “Kou-Ken”, a Monkey Kung Fu style while El Blaze is a Mexican wrestling champion that uses the Lucha Lubre technique.  Players will also be able to turn on the commentary feature allowing players to hear a play-by-play sports commentary audio while fighting their opponents.

By the way, if you're a cheap bastard, there's a deal going on to get you some money off for your purchase:

... Virtua Fighter 5 will be rated T for Teen by the ESRB and will have an MSRP of $59.95.  Also, SEGA has partnered with Gamestop to offer $5.00 off the MSRP if you pre-order for a limited time.  To take advantage of this offer, please visit: GameStop

I think the PS3 has a six-month exclusive window for VF5. It'll be coming to the 360 eventually.

I remember when there was a post about no online multiplayer for Virtua Fighter 5, and a lot of people were quick to blame Sony's cruddy online system for that.

Well, now it's coming out for the 360, and there STILL isn't any online multiplayer.

I guess the reasons for no online support goes beyond the "Sony sucks lawl" argument.

Anyway, I've been a casual fan of the VF series. It looks good.

Go play MK, DOA, or Tekken if you want to complain about the same 'ol shit being recycled with every new VF game, the game obviously isn't made for you. You just aren't the target demographic for this game. VF fans and fanatics are pretty easy to please with just updated graphics, a couple new characters, and minor gameplay and balance tweaks. The gameplay is already almost perfect, so if it ain't broke don't fix it.

As far as online multiplayer goes, it was sega's decision not to implement it because of latency issues. When a game about frame counting is key, 60fps is necessary. Since the game will not run in constant 60fps during online battles, it was pulled in order to not have a crippling and frustrating online match. Online won't happen until we can have lagless internet and every house is wired up with fiber.

@ Dymaxion:

Virtua (short for virtual) is Sega's branding for a series of fully 3D games back in the 90's when that was still a new gimmick. It crossed over into genres like fighting, racing, light gun shooters, and sports.
