MLG Spring Arena 2 was this past weekend and saw the first Zerg vs. Zerg (ZvZ) finals in a long time. In fact, the top three players all played Zerg. One of the matches in the championship match even went past 30 minutes, a rarity in the ZvZ matchup. The ZvZ matchup is just so incredibly fast, and almost always results in Roaches and Infestors battling it out until one player out-plays and out-macros (has a better income rate) the other.
Violet, who came to the championship match from the winner's bracket, went up 2-1 in the final best of 5. He took a pretty big risk early on in the next game that didn't quite work out as best as it could have, but he hung in there and took the match in four games, taking home $10,000. He wore that mask because he was feeling a bit under the weather, not because he's a big fan of Lone Survivor.
Personally, once I saw Polt knock off the previous champion DongRaeGu, I instantly became a fan of his playstyle. His command over each individual unit ("micro" is the technical term) during battle was simply fantastic. Violet knocked him into the losers bracket, and then MC took him out of the tournament.
The top 12 finalists will move on to the Spring Championship in Anaheim on June 8-10.
