Brutalities revealed for Mortal Kombat X

Brutalities are back in Mortal Kombat X, and there will be "well over 100" according to series creator Ed Boon, a fact that makes me wonder just how many characters the game will have. Originally, brutalities were long ...

Shelter 2's latest trailer will thaw the coldest of hearts

I was reminded of Might and Delight's upcoming abstract adventure game Shelter 2 the other evening as I was winding my way up into the snowy, North Carolina highlands at dusk. As I made the last few icy turns appro...

Far Cry 4 somehow gets more dangerous in Valley of the Yetis

If Far Cry 4's jaunt through Kyrat serves as any indication, the Himalayas are an incredibly dangerous place. Whatever isn't trying to maul you is trying to shoot bullets at you. It's like being caught between a rock and a h...

Hyrule Warriors' play-as-Ganon mode looks broken and awesome

In the next and seemingly final piece of DLC for Hyrule Warriors, we'll be able to punch bosses in the face as the biggest boss of all, Ganon, in his own separate mode. I'm eager to let my anger out on the Imprisoned, that j...

Demon Gaze developer Experience has been busy on the Vita since with Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy (and its upcoming sequel in Japan), but there are no shortages of dungeons to crawl or publishers to team with, so Bandai...

Slain! is an homage to a particular kind of gothic, gory classic

We are not wanting for loving pixel art in this nostalgia-fueled retro renaissance, but Slain!'s Gothic horror manages to stand out the same way the sort of off kilter Altered Beast or Castlevania still do. Before "pixel art...

Bandai Namco is behind new space robot MOBA Supernova

You can play Supernova today. The MOBA from developer Primal Game Studios is publisher Bandai Namco's next push into the realm of free-to-play (you'll remember the Gundam Vs-like 2-on-2 arena fighter Rise of Incarnates). Nam...

Xenoblade Chronicles X shows off dynamic weather, day-night cycle

Day and night cycles aren't new, but it's a pretty one at least. Actually, thinking on it, more RPGs (particularly Japanese RPGs) could benefit from a day and night cycle just for the perceived visual variation on the hours ...

Fans cobble together playable demo for abandoned Sonic X-Treme

The titled epitome of '90s raditude done in by hubris, Sonic X-Treme, was meant to be the first full 3D Sonic -- a Mario 64 colleague -- and the first of SEGA's star series for its Saturn system. Like so many subsequent 3D S...

Masquerada is a very pretty Baldur's Gate-style RPG

Leading with the Dragon Age comparison probably would've gotten more eyes on this these days, huh? The Baldur's Gate reference point just makes the most sense, though, especially with the isometric view. And there are plenty...

Wii U game Stone Shire is clearly not a Minecraft clone

Due to be released on the Wii U eShop some time in March, Stone Shire is a "Minecraft-like experience" from Finger Gun Games.  In Stone Shire, which is very much its own game inspired by Minecraft and not a direct clone...

Chainsaw-carved Majora's Mask is authentic as it gets

Now that's a one of a kind collector's item. Forget the gaudy gold New 3DS XL. Artist Griffon Ramsey works with the most delicate brush of all, the chained saw, and with it she sculpted this beautiful Majora's Mask out of a ...

March's Games with Gold are some of the best games photo
March's Games with Gold are some of the best games
by Brett Makedonski

In the recent past, Xbox Live's Games with Gold program has had mostly the same cadence every month: a standout title, an indie game, and a bit of filler. March breaks that mold with three superb games from 2013.

March's Xbox One title is Rayman Legends, which just happened to be my game of the year in 2013. Seriously, it's amazing. When informed of the selection, Destructoid editor Jordan Devore couldn't control his outbursts, exclaiming "So dang good!" and "Those games are masterful."

Legacy console Xbox 360's titles aren't slouches either. Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider kicks off the first half of March, and BioShock Infinite holds down the back-end. All three games here are certainly worth downloading and playing.

And, as an added bonus, Microsoft has announced that April will double down on Games with Gold. That means two games on Xbox One, and four on Xbox 360. Microsoft claims that this is to celebrate the program crossing 100 million game downloads across its lifetime. Whatever the reasoning, Xbox Live subscribers will certainly welcome the freebies.
