The BAFTAs are the most prestigious awards that the UK has to offer after the British Comedy Awards, and for the first time they will honor videogames. Spore creator Will Wright shall be receiving a Fellowship BAFTA for his years of achievements in games, an honor I think many would be hard pressed to argue with.
Included as part of the London Games Festival, the videogame BAFTAs should prove to be a fantastic night where the medium of gaming gets treated with a little more respect and dignity than the mainstream usually affords it. I would be covering the event personally, but unless someone buys me a £200+ ticket, they can whistle for it.
Held on the 23rd of October, the BAFTAs will honor not just Sir Wright, but a whole host of videogames. Hit the jump for the full list of nominees. I love award shows ... if only we could win one.
