Yesterday, Microsoft was kind enough to update my Xbox 360 with a preview of this November's upcoming Xbox LIVE updated.
That includes all of the fancy new features they've been talking about since E3, like Facebook, Twitter, and last.fm. Because I love you guys, I pushed myself through a nasty cold to check it out, and have created a few walkthrough videos that may give you a better idea of what to expect when the update hits your consoles.
Hit the jump for the videos, and if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them in the comments.
Those look like some damn fine and well integrated additions. only thing they need to add is a web browser but I don't think that's happening any time soon.
It's a little lame that last.fm can't be used as a custom soundtrack tool during games. Kinda makes it rather pointless unless you just want some background music. Still, it's all welcome additions.
lol@Nick. You seriously thought about clicking on that Creed video didn't you?
Well all these look great, if you could run them whilst playing games. But as you can't, they are pretty pointless. So yeah, I'll save the room on my hard drive thanks MS.
I was just in shock that it was there, really. I thought the young priest and the old priest I hired a few years back had gotten rid of them.

You can hit "Y" to log out, and log back in, but you'll need to type in all of the second account's info. There's no way to quickly switch between two profiles, from what I can tell.
First off, you need to be paying for live to use them, secondly, they only work while you're on them.... This update fails. I love how you point out in all your words and tones of voice that these additions are pointless!
Seriously...other than importing Facebook friends who have Live accounts, most of the updates miss the point of integration and convergence since they can't run simultaneously with a game.
Unless...you happen to be a person who only owns an Xbox, but not a computer.
I'd rather get a web browser on my Xbox...and so much for "trending topics" :P
Facebook with no Mafia Wars/FarmVille/etc support is kind of a waste of time. What would be sick is an internet browser that wasn't as crippled as the PS3s when it comes to multimedia support.
Anyway, I have no doubt that using the features(especially Last.fm, my favorite) are cool, but the fact that they are separate applications that need to be launched is kind of lame. I was expecting Last.fm to support background running at the very least. And Twitter and FaceBook to be tied to your achievements and game play habits. And maybe it's just the preview, but you need to have a gold account just to use these 3 features that you can use for free elsewhere.
@ Frohike - LOLOLOLOL!!! Man your comment about the new XBL update with thezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......Huh? What? Where am I?
It would have been great if the last.fm thing could have been integrated into something like GTA4, where your last.fm station of choice turns on when entering a car. O well, we can all dream
WHY oh why won't they let me kill zombies while running my last.fm in the bg? I mean without allowing it to run in the bg IS there even a point to it? I have stereos. I have an MP3 player. I have a 1TB hdd full of music. But I don't have Last.fm running in the bg whilst I massacre the zombie hordes.
If you have a buck to spend and have an iPhone/iPod Touch, Apple has just approved NaviSPORE (http://www.navispore.com), the only iPhone app that lets you see your Creations in 3D. As described in the link, NaviSPORE is community-driven: if you want to see your Creation, send the COLLADA file and associated textures as a zip file (you make these files with the Spore COLLADA cheat) to us via mycreation@navispore.com and give it a name, one that hasn't already been taken in our model bank.

The final part of our Xbox 360 November dashboard update saves the best for last, without intending the pun. Here's Last.FM in action on my 360, injecting a bit of Zelda and MF Doom into my system. I downloaded a preview version of next month's Xbox 360 update this Branded Merchandise morning and quickly found that Last.FM has the most involved and impressive integration of any of the new features I sampled this morning.
One of the clearest lessons of the last few decades is that capitalism is indestructible. Marx compared it to a vampire, and one of the salient points of642-892comparison now appears to be that642-642always rise up again after being stabbed to death. Even Mao’s attempt, in the Cultural Revolution, to wipe out the traces of capitalism, ended up in its triumphant return640-863. Today’s Left reacts in a wide variety of ways to the hegemony of global capitalism and its political supplement, liberal democracy. It might, for example, accept the hegemony70-432, but continue to fight for reform within its rules (this is Third Way social democracy).
This article shows the real picture of human rights in Egypt. It is really sad to know about the such victims and black sheep in society. I hope to see more investigative articles from the author in future.

Did I give off that impression? ;) I'm actually listening to last.fm on my Xbox now, and it's pretty great, though.
@TheJesusNinja26:
I'm wearing cotton right now.
@calelogan:
Oddly, that's the only time I've gotten that trending topics error... when I was making the video.
More Radiohead in the future. Gotcha! :)

Anyway, the begining part was spectacular, I hope MS gets the hint to make this FREE. Thanks for putting these vids together for us.
I just saw MajorNelson say the preview will have Haloz Waypoint in it. Not for me but I'm sure some 9th grader out there just lost it hearing that.
See you in Pandora
No one would have known if you hadn't said anything! Now everyone is on their way to your house.
