I pride myself on having never pirated a game. Console gamers pirate games just as much, if not more, than PC gamers. Back in the days of the PS1, I knew loads of people with chipped PS1s and pirated games.
Honest gamers get screwed over, and I'm getting sick of it.
I have never known anyone with a console who pirates games- yet every pc gamer I have know has pirated at least one game. I know thats personal experience but I cant help but feel that the scale of the problem is seen in how it's being dealt with- the industry does everything it can to tighten the screws on the pc audience, nothing anywhere near that for consoles.
It's just the way it is- it doesnt mean all pc gamers are cheap and steal games, but when it's as widespread a problem as it is, then it's no surprise the companies try to keep the audience on a tighter leash.
This game looks great. I wish they would just make one console that could play all these great games that I keep missing due to my PS3 ownership. And same goes for Xbox, it must suck to see stuff like Metal Gear Solid and God Of War. Bah, damn capitalism.
Gaming needs to be more communist!!
after all i don't mind.. this game wont pass 85 in metacritics.. what's no grant him the title of AAAA+++
And what's most funny is the modnationracers already started in a large advantage..
Problably there's no remedy to save remedy from this 5 years shotting on her own foot..
I really want to play this now, but lack an Xbox 360. Oh well.
I wrote an article criticizing people for writing angry messages in response to what a movie critic thinks about games as art so hey, we agree!
Nice try. <3
It's a slam against all games that think a shitty sex scene is a sign of "mature" gaming. Alan Wake was able to craft an engaging story without a crap sex scene, and that's really the only message. In truth, there are more 360/PC games with shit sex in them than PS3 games, so the Sony hive mind really ought to calm its little vagina down.
But...it's a game! Gameplay isn't everything...but isn't it the most important thing?
I'm thinking I'll get it...when the price drops into the 25 dollar or less range. Even the positive review doesn't sway me if it's a 60 buck worth title.
The whole episodes thing...flashbacks of Alone In The Dark. Why would I want to watch highlights of what I previously did? Sure, that would be a great feature to have happen whenever you boot up the game, but when I play for longer than one episode in one sitting and have to watch one episode end and tell me what I just did and start a new episode instead of just moving along...is that progress?
Eh. Something is wrong when I love survival horror and love the Max Payne games and even see reviews of it being great and something about it STILL can't excite me. Still has my spidey sense buzzing that I'll get burned. Maybe it's just the terrible trailers and webisodes that drew me away, I'm not sure.
Also, 1251 need to chill out. It's a video game blog. If you happen to not like one of the writers, don't read what they have to say. SIMPLE!
D'aww well, the enemies kinda sound like american shibito just maybe a little less creepy, if this is true I wanna play the game a little more because I LOVE the Siren games alot.
Seriously though, this review read like a 6 all the way through, until the number at the end. It's kinda "yeah this game's got ups and downs, some things it does well, some not so well" - then BAM, 9 GOTY!!! Suppose it just got a bit of Jimbos signature Xbox360 exclusive auto +3 treatment.
My prediction is that, was this a PS3 exclusive, exactly the same game, but different console, it would have been hit with Jimbo's PS3 auto-3 and would have got a 3.
Nevermind, do what you do Jimbo, but don't think we don't notice your fanboy showing.
i agree
jim is simply a troll, thats not big news, the thing is, he is CONVINCED most people hate him becuz of his infamous scores, albeit many of his scores are complete bullshit, the main reason is becuz hes a troll, i mean just look at how many articles he wrote trashtalkin heavy rain
heavy rain does videogames a disservice (so makin a fair reference to movies makes you a hater in the industry?)
heavy rain has lowered the bar for video game narrative (oh yeah, MW2 probably didnt "lowered the bar" with its plothole-filled story or well, nearly any other video game which story wasnt perfect despite trying)
deadly premonition is blatantly better than heavy rain (now to be fair this is a joke article altough its filled with some BLATANTLY obvious trolling, for example
"The antagonists for each game share some similarities. They are both serial killers who frequently taunt the main characters. However, that's where the similarities end. You see, unlike the Origami Killer, the Raincoat Killer isn't a little fucking bitch. Since you are probably too stupid to get it, here's a nice simple list of reasons why the Origami Killer sucks next to the Raincoat Killer:
1. The Origami killer only picks on ten-year-old boys. That's not a threat to me. I could kick the shit out of a little boy. What's so scary about that? In fact, I fucking hate kids. More of them should be drowned in rainwater. How is he a credible villain when he's doing the world a service?
2. Origami isn't scary. Ooh, fuck, he's going to give me a paper cut! Please. Folding paper is the kind of think an autistic would do.
3. The Raincoat Killer has orange glowing eyes. This is terrifying of course.
4. When the Raincoat Killer is revealed, it doesn't feel as if we were lied to by intellectually dishonest developers for the better part of six hours, just to force the most contrived curve ball in videogame history." )
AND JIM SIMPLY CANT LET IT GO
@pl0x kthanxbai - "and jim simply cant let it go" well it seems you can let it go either.
Yall come in here whining and crying because Jim made a JOKE (which i loled at). I'm not here to defend anyone but just simply say "jesus christ" don't yall have anything better to do than bring mindless hate to what is actually a well written and good review??
As for me I have been looking forward to this game since 05 and i'm glad that all the hype might actually payoff. Where as all the hype (and i had a lot of hype since it was even hinted at) behind Heavy Rain turned into nothing but the biggest let down for me when it comes to video games.
"i said nothing about jim being biased. i said he propagates his own bullshit to get attention, because he's never had an original thought in his entire life. "
Yet every one of his posts (look at his comment history) is PS3 trolling to get attention.
This is bloody hilarious.
ON TOPIC
I am seriously surprised. I didn't expect much of this game, but being a huge fan of horror I might check it out. How long is it, Jim? I think someone else asked that but I'm still curious as whether to buy or rent.
As for the PS3 trolls, he gives lots of PS3 games good reviews and good scores. He just has strong opinions. As for Heavy Rain, being someone who writes novels for a living, that game is a complete mess. Take one Creative Writing class in college and you'll see what I mean. It seriously is not well written, and when a game depends on story that much...it leaves little left.
Jim, this review(score) for me is a disappointment, but it's only your opinion so, i respect.. but don't your forget to say somethings like..
First you forget to say this game has no replay values and the entire game is a repetitive mechanism..
Second forget to say he has a magic bag to carry all stuff you found, stuff that has NO sense to be there..(i know lots of game has this bus this one, ROFL), he can't jump more than a box, he sprints like a girl...
Third a thriller game has THE main focus in a good history, like a movie.. but this one.. i won't spoiler.. but remember.. a bad ending in a movie make all the movie be a shit..
Fourth This game can be scary for the first minutes, but after some time playing you start to know where the horde ill come, cause you ill found unlimited amount of itens to deal with them..
And come on see alan saying "BIRD" it's the same to say i have mental problems..
The rest make the game outstading.. but more than 8 is to much..
sorry any bad english..
So lets break it down. Jim writes a review which is exactly in line with how most other reviewers have characterized the game. His review, even by the most critical account here, is good ("until he throws in an attack on Heavy Rain," which he didn't). The review gives a solid breakdown of its ups and downs, and he gives proper context to where Alan Wake stands compared to other similar titles (both tech and writing-wise).
Where is the problem? Most of what I'm seeing is people griping that they don't like Jim Sterling himself, and therefore it must follow that the review is not good. Anyone want to explain how I'm wrong?
After finally reading IGN's latest review, I see that the game is basically 12 hours max, with a "nightmare" mode that isn't hard, and that's it.
Price drop/rent city.
So this is basically just a Luigi's Mansion ripoff?
About the lamer Trolls, Why the hell are you reading Jim then?... 1251 needs to shut up, all the girlfriends of 1251 need to shut up... Its simple, no one shares your opinion, why Jim cannot throw a joke about other games about the sex scenes?. why nhe cant mock about errors in games?, are this jokes hurting you?, seriously?...
Anyway, the game looks really good. I'll be picking it up eventually (probably after Galaxy 2).
Hey Heavy Rain, you want some ointment or Neosporin for that BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRNNNN?
