Quantcast

From the "Reality Overload" files comes this video of Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain playing The Beatles: Rock Band.

The 55-year-old drummer of the heavy metal band sits reclined in a couch to get his game on, gently tapping along on the drums to The Beatles' "Good Morning Good Morning." McBrain smiles as he plays, even at one point bursting into laughter. He really likes its, guys!

"That was miserable," he says at the end, speaking not of the game, but of his performance. He scores 81% on Easy. Ringo Starr is not amused.

In other news, McBrain can rock the sh*t out of some real drums, and you may or may not be able to play Iron Maiden songs on Rock Band drums at the Expert level. He'll always be a winner in my book.

That guy's completely awesome. Always liked him. Although I'm not the biggest metal guy.

Especially compared to the other huge egos in his band.

Nicko rocks. Big time.

Haha...that was great.
I wonder if he'd be better off playing on Hard.
I actually find Easy pretty difficult because it feels nothing like playing the actual song.

Agree with Citizen. You put someone like Nicko who is programmed to ROCK on an easy song in Easy Mode, and it melts their brain.

It's okay, we still love you Nicko! You'll always be awesome on the real drums.

And I totally love drumming to your songs on Expert, so thanks for being amazing even at the ripe age of 55.

I'm better at the Rock Band drums than the drummer for Iron Maiden.

........

I'm not sure if that's something to be proud of.

no it is not the same, this guy rocks!!! this post really filled me with joy, with so many artists demeaning the music video game genre, I'm glad some people actually get it and have fun playing, after all that's the reason we play these games, but it seems like some of us forget that.

He plays ALL his Maiden songs with a single kick drum (apart from Face in the Sand from Dance of Death). That alone is incredible and worthy of uber-praise.

I can't blame him for playing on Easy though. I play drums myself and I suck at RB drums on anything higher than Medium.

That's probably the smallest kit I have seen Nicko play on!

His usual setup for those unfamiliar with his drum set.

It's nice to see a musician enjoying themselves playing a music game.

Nicko didn't do so well. Now had that been Clive Burr, we'd have seen some drumming mastery!

I second that, King. Very nice to see an artist actually playing the games, that other artists are moaning about and still not playing. We need to see more just like this, and maybe even some celebs doing their thing.
