A news station here in my home state of Oregon ran a report yesterday regarding a man from Klamath Falls who killed a fifteen year old by literally blowing him apart with a shotgun. His defense centered around the idea that violent video games drove him to murder. Of course, if it weren't for the games, he would probably be a stripper, or an astronaut, or a really sexy combination of the two that would never consider liquifying the body of a teenager with a pump-action cannon.
Of course, as Game Politics reports, the prosecutors have this nutty idea that perhaps the defendant went "all whackypants" on the victim as revenge for the dead man's having ripped him off during a drug deal gone awry (the worst kind of drug deal).
The saddest part is that there is a very real possibility that the drug dealer/murderer/failed sexy astronaut could receive a greatly lessened sentence based on the fact that he, at one point, played a video game, and the media has created the premise that video games make people sodomize animals and blow up retirement homes. It has become the new insanity plea, and our hobby having been reduced to something criminals can hide behind to escape justice for their crimes is utterly sickening.

Oh, BTW, if anyone else is free this weekend, I want to help organize a group murder party. I figure if anyone here isn't too busy playing video games, we can all go out and stalk people en masse. Make a fun weekend of it, after we knock off a few people we can go surf for some porn on the Wii and then head over to Niero's place for some blood orgy action. I call firsts on the bloody hump stump.

well, one day judges wont be old farts that think video games hurt people mentally, and people wont be able to use this defense, when the people who are 25 now are 75, video games will no longer be blamed like they are now, simply because gamers will know... games don't make you violent, you being a fucked up human being makes you violent.
people have been liquefying teenagers with shotguns ever since shotguns were invented... people have been violent since the dawn of humanity! EVEN OUR GENETIC ANCESTORS FIGHT AND KILL EACH OTHER!!!!
violence in the last 20 years has gone DOWN! not up, people are less violent now than back when the most violent video game was you shooting some pixels at more pixels in asteroids.

and thats just lame how people can kill someone and be like "video games made me do it" and the medias like HOLY CRAP VIDEO GAMES = EVIL!!! Its just another example of the sensational pile of shit we call the 6' o clock news
