Video Games Live to perform at Spike Video Game Awards photo

Wow. The Spike Video Game Awards are the place to be this year. If the newly announced host Sammy J. wasn't enough to excite you, then maybe the addition of a full-blown videogame orchestral concert would be.

Touring game music concert Video Games Live will perform at Spike TV's 2007 Video Game Awards. This awards show, airing December 9 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), will be VGL's television debut. They are slated to perform some selected popular pieces from their concert line up and will also be adding some new, unseen material.

“It was quite an honor for us to be contacted about performing in the show,” said game composer and VGL co-creator Tommy Tallarico.  “Spike TV’s goal of celebrating video games and bringing them to the masses is exactly the reason we created Video Games Live in the first place.”

Video game composer and co-creator/conductor Jack Wall added, “We’re really excited about this opportunity which gives us a platform to reach millions of people.  We have a few new surprises in store for the audience that we’re really looking forward to performing live.”

As you may already know, Destructoid's staff are all huge fans of Video Games Live, and several of us have attended multiple performances.  We're happy that VGL is blowing up. I'm sure they'll pull out all the stops for the Spike Video Game Awards next month. Good luck, guys!

They've all sort of sucked up until now. The whole Samuel L. Jackson thing...just...overkill. Maybe this year the show will focus on video games and not making the point that people who play them will remain virgins until death.

the way the review system has been overhauled gives me hope
the 'fans' do NOT get to vote. I love that

VGL's awesome but i'm not sure if their greatness will save this shitty excuse to have a video game awards show.

I could be wrong. the fact they have VGL could mean some better thought into what they're doing. Cause I know I stayed laughing and "WTFs" when I heard about the last few years.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! We're really excited about the exposure we'll be getting.

And as always... special thanks to the Destructoid folks for the continued GREAT support!

Wait, the fans DON'T get to vote in this year's show? THAT IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR SINCE DAY ONE.

Maybe it will be worthwhile to actually pay attention to the awards show this year.

More on topic, VGL was awesome, so it seems the SpikeTV VGAs are doing more than one thing right this time around.

Yeah, this years panel seems to be a good group of people (Ron Workman being one of them) so, I'm hoping that means that the games chosen make more sense.

I swear... if Halo wins over Bioshock... I'm gonna..... grrrrrrr :P

Quadruple post combo!

Also, I'll be watching for the sole reason of seeing VGL.

I too will watch solely for VGL, but now I have high(er) hopes that the rest won't suck big time.
