You may have heard that the PSPgo supports a Bluetooth connection to the PS3's DualShock3 controller, letting you use its bigger and better buttons and sticks to control your PSP games. The problem is that Sony didn't make the steps very clear. We've decided to make a video to show you how its done, and we'll also show you some of the cool things you can do with the connection.
Believe it or not, a PS3 is required to make this connection. I have no idea why. It's like Sony didn't want to leave the PS3 out of the fun or something.
If you happen to have the PSPgo's video cables, you can use the controller to play PSP games on your television. It works quite well, actually. A fully loaded PSPgo and a DualShock3 make for a very slick little portable game system now, perfect for hotel rooms or family visits where a television will be available.
Games definitely benefit from the bigger, better buttons. I tried Gran Turismo PSP, and was impressed by how much better the game controlled with the DualShock3's analog nub. Just about everything I tried played great, with no lag or delays.
The DualShock3 to PSPgo connectivity is a quirky feature, but it's neat, and I'm glad they implemented it.
The PS3 doesn't use dongles to connect the PS3 controllers, they sync automagically to the PS3, thus when you have multiple devices to possibly sync with it gets funky. This is kind of a strange work around, I would've thought you could just sync the controller directly with a USB cable. I use my PS3 controller on my PC and laptop to play stuff with emulators and I just sync it up using the USB, then the bluetooth recognises it (you need to download some drivers and stuff) and voila wireless controller. It's hilarious when first party devs lag behind the modders.
@ Dale & CapnCrunk the Go has it's own cables because 1) it's also compatible with SD tv's not Just HD tv's, before the signal was only able to be output at the PSPs native 480p which while not HD is a standard generally only supported by HD tvs and now it also supports the regular interlaced standard 480i 2) It's this whole multi-use connector thing it uses the same jack for Audio/Video and usb/charging. Thus a new proprietary cable is needed. Did you expect any less of Sony? They did exactly the same thing with the slim, changed the ports. Slightly. The Go was more blatant so more people caught on it seems, but it's just as impossible to use PSP 1000 accessories with the 2 or 3000 series. I guess they cost more because as with everything Sony they use a proprietary connector that nobody else uses, so the manufacturer makes up for market saturation with higher pricing.
Very cool, they should have specific games able to use the second analog when using this feature, like a metal gear or a god of war type of game........
Now, that said, it is a horrid idea, Sony did not build a handheld, nor do they push out handheld games, they released a console with console experience games. It beaks me in 2!
I play handhelds at home mostly. I used the Super Gameboy on the SNES and the Gameboy Player on the Gamecube, so yeah... This is right up my alley, personally.
I feel like I'm in Horse Town with all these naysayers in here.
this is not enough to make me pick up the GO, but it is starting to look better. If there was only a GT bundle for it. Or some added value to pick up the system. I know that is crazy talk.
@brainderailment. As long as you don't resync it with the ps3 you can take it with. You only have to hook it up to it once. When you press the ps button it syncs with the go as long as its on, even if the ps3 in the room.
need some clarification.
So do i have to own a PS3 for this feature or is it just a question of syncing the controller with the PSPgo once at a friends place?
