VGAs nabs Gyllenhaal for Prince of Persia film exclusive photo

The past Spike Video Game Awards have attempted to mix Hollywood with the world of gaming with varied results, and this year's show (which airs this Saturday on Spike TV) looks to be no different.

However, with the synergy of Hollywood and gaming now stronger than ever, it looks like the marriage may start to make a bit more sense. Case in point: Not only will the VGAs host the premiere of Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, but it will also be the premiere of a new clip from Disney's upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time film.

But the Hollywood connection doesn't simply end there, as Geoff Keighley has revealed (vis Twitter) that actor Jake Gyllenhaal (who plays the Prince in the film) will introduce the clip personally. How's that for star power?

Say what you will about Gyllenhaal and the film, but it's definitely a step up from Tila Tequila, I'd say...

One day there will be an OSCAR-like ceremony for videogames, mark my words! Until then, we stick with the Devil we know. Or AMPAS starts handing out videogame OSCARS. Anything to remove the stench of some of the previous mockery-of-my-favourite-passtime efforts Spike has put out!

You used the word 'synergy', we have to reset the 'days without using meaningless buzz-words' counter now.

Are we supposed to be impressed with TV marketing for the movie?

I'll keep a heads up, but I'm kinda half-&-half on this one. But hey, this Prince of Persia stuff seems to be appearing more keen on gaining my interests than it ever was when it was first announced. And no, I'm not riding no hype machine.

@Rammstein
One day our dream will come true. Until that day, we must spread the good word of video games and that they are all as good as movies in their own repsective natures. Soon we will no longer have to sweat profusely in our beds dreaming of a reality that simply does not exist... Wait, what? Time for work already? DAMN! I was this (->][<-) close this time...

That has to be the worst casting since Kirsten Dunst as MJ.

@linuxguy:

Synergy was like, totally a word before people used it as a buzzword. And stuff.

Gyllenhaal as a Prince...what's next, Justin Timberlake as Marcus Fenix in the Gears Of War movie?
Which some Hollywood dude might now read this and make that happen. Sorry about that. The movie was going to be bad anyway. Call me psychic.

But Gyllenhal is baaaarely a step up that from that whore Tila Tequila. At least I can believe she actually enjoys videogames to some extent, instead of merely pimping a movie.

Man, I'm in a cranky mood today.

I lost a lot of respect for Jake, but after seeing "Brothers", I think he can actually pull this off.
