Yesterday, the ever-alluring Colette Bennett shared with you news of a new PC/360 RPG, Venetica. With only a press release and a few bad screenshots to go off, anticipation hasn't been high, but maybe this new trailer will see a few converts. Probably not, but we'll see.
Personally, I dig it. It has a very Fable/Beyond Good & Evil artistic quality that might be lacking in graphical oomph, but is part of this (hopefully continuing) trend of games bringing some color back into consoles, so I approve. The story seems unique and interesting, and anything that bolsters the 360's RPG department gets my attention.
What do you guys think? Has a trailer done anything to make this a bigger blip on the radar?

Meet the rest of the team
After seeing Colette's preview yesterday I tracked this trailer down on IGN. I still think this looks like the Xbox version of Fable but with worse art direction. I pray this is simply that early in development that all the flash and prettiness is just not implemented yet. Looks too bland for my liking.
I was not very interested in it when I read Colette post, but after watching the trailer its grabbed my interest. I dunno if I'll buy it, but at the least it will be a rental.
I like the look of this. Colors and style are way the hell more appealing than the polygon and effect counts graphics whores seem to masturbate to these days.
Hmmm, it looks better but it still gives me a Kameo vibe in how it looks/moves. It also looks like one of those 30/year pc adventure games that always fail hard.
@ BlindsideDork-
I only like the ones on the Box that require shooting everything :)
The last turn-based RPG I liked was Eternal Sonata, and that combat system isn't the norm.
I'm a graphics whore, so this is almost on my 'not interested' list now.....it will definitely on that list if no changes are made by 2009, when it's released. I do root for the underdog though, but maybe they shouldn't have had one of their programmers do the voice over for the trailer.
First of all, who needs a powerful magic power to open a fucking treasure chest? weak. Secondly, color me impressed. I'll be taking a closer look at this.
1. I better not be limited to that single weapon and set of clothing she wielded the whole time. There better be some sweat gear I can find and use as well as more than just 'sword' type of weapons.
2. Story first, followed very closely by gameplay, then by voice acting, then by graphics. I'm not a graphics whore, and as long as it doesn't look like ass the game can still be fun.
3. That does look like a pretty bad alpha graphic stage of the game in regards to lighting/particle effects. I'm sure it will get at least better in regards to those two as it gets closer to release.
I'm hoping this is just early footage because right now, it looks a little janky. The graphics don't loook nearly as good as the screens (it really looks like an original Xbox game) and the animation looks pretty stiff.
I'm still interested in the premise and concept though so again, I hope this is just really early footage.
The bizarre thing with this game is, I like the developer name, more than the games name. Venetica, what does that mean? Is it trying to be crytic, for the sake of it or not?
After watching the video, its still feels like its retreading lacklustre water, that's been done better in other games. I'm an underdog champion so I'm gonna hold my judgement til its out.
My advice to Deck 13, you've got to bring something unique to the table, if you want me to buy this. I've played Devil May Cry and God of War, both of which do this kind of game with much more style and addictive grace in design.
How to do this in a game from a small developer? Simple things like instead of using swords try another weapon. No one has done staff weapons, so try that. As for as character design goes, the main character is nice, but she's oozes 'I want to be Lara Croft with a sword' and even looks too much like her, it's not funny. You gotta give me something else to go on, cause so far, I'd be skeptical about buying this.
For an rpg, the story also plays a strong part of the game, driving and motivating the player forward. So far, I'm not buying it as it sounds like a bad Neil Gaiman/Sandman trip. I'm not expecting an FF type epic, but I do expect something tangible and worth more time to explore.
You wanna do a good rpg, take a look at Persona 3, a superb game which has it in spades. You get a supernatural twist rpg, set in the modern world (something we barely ever see), a cast of great characters and other stuff to do besides just questing.
Perhaps I'm being too judgemental on only a small bit of video, but I'll give Deck 13 a chance to change my mind. It doesn't appeal to me much so far.
That trailer was made 10x worse with the voice over and subtitles, should've just been ingame footage. And yeah, it DOES look a whole lot like Fable. I guess this is one to watch, for now. I <3 me some action RPGs.
Which path will you choose? Come on, this has been used so many times that it has lost just as much pizazz as In a world... Not to mention, the trailer doesn't even really allude to the paths you might be taking.
Maybe these paths consist of getting this game and going through the story or passing this one by. Well, based on how cliched this trailer is I think I know which path I'll be taking.
@PixelBlue I would be way more interested in this game if it revolved around font.

Seems kinda neat, maybe. Hopefully it's worth trying out.
