Word coming out of Variety today is that private film financier and production company Legendary Pictures is in negotiations to acquire Gears of War developer Epic Games. The information comes from "multiple sources close to the companies" that confirmed that talks were currently underway.

Of course, both Legendary and Epic are staying quiet on the matter.

"We have publicly announced that Epic and Legendary are partnering on the Gears of War movie," Epic told Variety's Ben Fritz. "We’re very excited about that project and have the highest regard for [Legendary Pictures'] Thomas Tull and his organization."

Some Legendary backed films include The Dark Knight, 300, and the upcoming Watchmen.

Legendary Pictures, Epic Games and now they just need to acquire Artifact Records and they would have a trio of awesome names.

meh...I'll believe it when I see it. One very successful company (Epic) pairing with a fairly successful company (Legendary) rarely happens. Acquisitions usually fall on companies that have had some hard times.

This is probably bad writing on Variety's part and Legendary Studios has acquired the film rights to some Epic IPs.
