Here's some new gameplay footage for Platinum Games' first foray into third person shooting, and if you thought it would just be a bland Gears of War rip-off, you don't know Platinum very well. Vanquish looks set to do for shooters what Bayonetta did for action games. Basically, make things f*cking mental.
Just check out the video, which shows off how fast, chaotic and thoroughly demented the whole affair is. This is shooting up my watch list with everything I see, and I will definitely make a point of finding some time at E3 to get to grips with it. Just look at it!

Meet the rest of the team
i would love to play this with wii remote + nunchuck. Seriously.
I was never good at aiming with R; I didn't care enough to get good at it, and after RE4wii, I don't think I ever want to again in a shooting heavy context.
That footage didn't excite me at all. Also I didn't like Bayonetta. I thought DMC was as good or better. I'm still excited to try Vanquish. I'd love to see a crazy, DMC approach to 3rd person shooter design. But I'll tell you what. I'm not going to take the reviews at face value like I did with Bayonetta.
While I don't have any doubt that you will love this game, like I will, why not post your review already? Just give it 8.0, the same score you gave Bayonetta after hyping it for so long. You love it, but it's not quite up there, so it's totally deserving of an 8.0.
Looks cool, but I want to see more of the running and gunning, flipping around meleein' dudes (like the end of the video), and less squatting behind waist-high cover.
Initial reaction was meh at the cover and fire system... But I loved the boost dash and melee stuff. Gave me some God Hand vibes which is always a good thing.
I dunno if this deserved so many annoying consonants in the acronym but yeah it looks like a mixture between Gears of War and Lost Planet in fast forward with less frames of animation. Not a bad combo...but nothing there justifies adding Z's to the end of words that shouldn't have them. :)
@jase52476: You'd piss many Metroid fans off it was like that. Metroid is not about the shooting/kicking the crap out of mechs. More like the calm approach to fps with the typical Metroid style exploration.
But whatever, that's just my opinion. Vanquish looks definately interesting. The crazy ride that Platinum already made with Bayonetta was great even though I'm not really a fan of complicated button mashers like DMC. (I prefer the God of War approach where you don't have endless skill combos)
The gameplay video above looks like a really fast Gear of War on steroids. I like it. :D
I'm a little surprised by the general lack of enthusiasm in the replies. I think this is the coolest game trailer i've seen in ages. I can't wait to play it (hopefully Sega won't botch it for the PS3 this time around)
Y'know, I didn't really care about Bayonetta, but I loved the essence of it. If they can translate the same energy to a shooter, I could be, how the people of the internet say, excite.
This looks great. Hopefully there's no ratings after every level that lets you know how badly you suck for allowing an enemy to hit you a couple times like in Bayonetta.
Too bad there's no multiplayer. Although, I can see how it would be a problem. People would just spam bad ass melee attacks the entire match.
Yeah, looks badass. Problem is -back to my current schtick- the godawful interface design. Please tell me this is a prototype UI. It's all lopsided, with every single element of it on the right side of the screen. And I don't recall ever requiring a visual indication of what weapons/grenades I'm carrying -and which part of the d-pad they are mapped to- in a 3rd person game.
You know, I'm surprisingly not too wowed by this. If they make it a shooter, like the first half of the video, then this video hasn't shown me anything particularly interesting (aside maybe from visual style). If they make it more integrated with melee, like the second part of the video, then it comes closer to being another Bayonetta; main character melees and shoots a bunch of dudes stylishly.
Don't get me wrong; I love Bayonetta. I just think this game would deserve its own distinct identity, and I'm not really seeing that here.

Maybe it needs epic music and Heavier, more EXTREME background noise?
That has almost no metroid feel. What'chu talkin about willis?
Still, looks great. Consider me excited
But at least this time Platinum is giving ps3 the treat making it the lead console for this one (unlike Bayonetta)

Two best action games ever made, imo.
will it finally happen? a good japanese shooter?

They won't... the lead development platform with this is the ps3

Then I again, I don't play shooters, so just consider me an idiot in this regard. (Though I'll still buy it just because it's Platinum)
Day one on this baby. Platinum doesn't disappoint me. LOVED Bayonetta. LOVED MadWorld. LIKED Infinite Space. Gimme some Vanquish!
