Vanguard: Saga of Heroes update fixes 1000 bugs, adds new starting location photo

Sony Online Entertainment’s MMORPG Vanguard: Saga of Heroes was generally perceived as a huge letdown when it launched back in early 2007. Even so, that hasn’t kept SOE from trying to work the kinks out for the faithful few that continue to stick with it, as the recent Game Update 6 demonstrates. According to the patch notes, Update 6 includes fixes for over 1000 bugs. Yikes! It’s pretty sad that the game had so many problems this far after launch, but at least SOE is working on them.

In an attempt to try and make things more inviting for new players, a new starting location called the Isle of Dawn has also been included in the update. The Isle of Dawn is for characters level 1-10 and has a few of the more advanced features turned off. It’s rumored that the island will serve as the featured location in an upcoming Vanguard free trial.

Along with the bug fixes and new landmass, changes were also made to character models in an attempt to make them more “capable of looking much more heroic and contain a lot more personality.” The classes themselves have also seen some rebalancing; the damage output of each class was examined and then altered to more closely fit the range they should be in.

What do you think about SOE’s continued support of Vanguard? Is the game a ship that’s long since sunk, or is there a chance they could turn it around?

I followed this game for a very long time before launch and played for a good 4 months (not including the beta). I definitely saw potential for an excellent MMO but it was left unfinished and very buggy. I don't know if its too late but the potential was there.

I was in the beta for a good 8 to 12 months and from were it was, to were it was when it released there was an absolutely massive improvement. However, it was released early due to the developer running out of money and having no choice. Anything past the lvl 40 mark had not been polished and a lot of the higher areas were, interesting, to say the least.

Went back to it about 3 months ago and it was probably at the stage for a proper launch then. The crafting is still one of the best I have seen in any MMO and the Diplomacy skills and quest lines are a great extra to have in it.

May give it another go if a new free trial is launched, then decide weather o invest another couple of months into it but with Warhammer due tomorrow, it may be getting pushed down the scales a wee bit...

I played it in beta a few months before it's release and continued on for a month or 2 afterwards.

At about level 30 the bugs just drove me up a wall. Camping for armor for 2 hours only to have the corpse bug out and become unlootable. That was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I gave it a go again several months later, but it felt as if the performance had gotten worse. The game is/was a huge resource hog.

Maybe it's better now, but fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice, shame on me! Fool me a third time and, dammit, I'll just end it all!

Its a pretty solid game but lacks a solid endgame. If your looking for PvP this game has none. Well it does but its terribly unbalanced and bad, granted open pvp rocks.
