With the recent news of Bethesda purchasing the rights to the Fallout series from Interplay, all hope for a traditional Fallout title was smushed like so many Radscorpions under the jackboot of the Brotherhood of Steel.

In response to this, and to make everyone weep a lil inside, No Mutants Allowed have compiled the above video; a compilation of footage taken from the work Black Isle Studios had completed on Van Buren (the code name for Fallout 3), before they lost the rights to work on it (and were cast out of the Garden of Eden to walk the Earth until the end of their days feasting on human flesh).

A lot of this is stuff that I had yet to see, and, honestly, it makes me sad that we will never see any of this in a completed game. While I think Bethesda can make a passable title with the IP, it certainly won't be like the game in the clips, and when you think Fallout, you want something like what you just watched, don't you?

I never got into Fallout: Tactics, but I still play the first two today. One of the best games ever, god I hope we get to see another one...

I sadly have never gotten a chance to play either Fallout. I suck, I know.

Yes.

The music is so appropriate. Forever missed, Black Isle, the one true CRPG developer.

Dear god Nex, did you just phrase Sportscenter?

As if posting a video of a game I'll never play wasn't enough.

I need to close my browser, I feel a bit woozy

On a side note I'd like to say that that video is as gutwrenching to watch as looking at those 3-D models Square made using it's FFVI characters.

Bastard. :) Fallout 3 is going to be enjoyable no matterwhat, but that video made me pull out my Fallout 2. I wonder if they'll make it the Fallout we want it to be, or a 3D ruination of one of the greatest rpgs of all time, imo... Either way I'm gonna play it. Looks like it would have stayed true to the game if they had finished it...

Direct all your hate towards Harve Caen and his stupid brother over at Interplay.

Making wise decisions regarding marketing, with a fiscal year profit of $8 + sales of IP.

Fuckers.

Heh, that was quite sad to see this... However, I am not in the Bethesda bashing like most other die-hard fans. I trust them to do something good, while doing a game more suited for the > 2007 market. And RIP Black Isle. Planescape Torment + Fallout = these guys are gods.

Well... I think the graphics were a little off... Not as in, I need GoW graphics, but I don't think they artistically fit.

Regardless, I salivated upon seeing the character customization screen. However, I would expect a more thorough equipment setup. Still one slot for an entire armor? Why not individual pieces?

this did not look like a step forward, it actually looked like a step sideways. why all the hate for bethesda nex? they did a great job with oblivion. I think a more up to date FPS or third person view fallout would be better than a return to the ol 3/4 view (which I personally would have dealt with but hate) was this "new" game even proper 3d or were all the BGs pre-rendered like last time. pre-rendered bgs do not cut it in 2007 unless they are really something special. let's be honest, this looked like 1997 all over again, and I trust bethesda to do something amazing with the franchise.

unless it goes all Shadowrun on us.

I love Fallout 2 and everything and I have no doubt that this version would have been awesome, but I'm going to have to echo Bahamut here. That video looked like a re-hash of Fallout 2 with 3d models. Hell, I thought it was just a mod at first.

Fallout 3 needs to be something different and I think Bethesda is probably on the right track. We'll just have to wait and see if they can pull it off while keeping the elements of Fallout that really mattered.

Damn, I really want to play that. The 3d models gave it a quasi-Neverwinter Nights feel to it. Good luck Bethesda, they have got a lot of thinking to do to get the series right and on track after tactics and that lame ass Xbox game.

But you have got to remember, the people who are fans of the game just don't care as much about the graphics. They like the over the top camera, the free roaming across a desert wasteland, and leveling their own unique character.

The only concern I have with Bethesda making FO 3 is if they do it like they did Elder Scrolls. Each new release of the Elder Scrolls series has improved graphics (by leaps and bounds I must add) and less gameplay content.

That looks like exactly the game fallout fans want. Does make me sad to see, but I won't write bethesda off until I know more(anything) about what they're doing. Also, best music selection ever possible in the entire world.

If I was a girl I would probably be crying right now. I can't believe this game wasn't finished. Bethesda might release a decent game called "Fallout" 3, but I HIGHLY doubt they will capture the true essence of the first 2 ever again without having the same staff.

Srry for double, but I just realized that there were no unique and awesome deaths in that video. Apparently its just a tech demo, but if they were really not going to have crazy animations then I almost support the game "poofing" like a duped Diablo II item, almost. And if Bethesda doesn't have awesome and hilarious death animations(for example, a guy running around on fire after a fatal flamethrower attack) then I am going to have to kill someone...or maybe a cat. Those smug little bastards.
