Valve talks Left 4 Dead DLC, the possibility of a demo photo

Yes, Valve's co-op-fueled zombiefest, Left 4 Dead, will be playable at PAX, but what are those of us who aren't attending the convention to do?

While it's true we don't need a demo to show us how great the game is going to be, how can we be expected to wait until November to satisfy our lust for horror? As it turns out, we may not have to.

Valve's Mike Booth told ButtonMasher that an Xbox 360 demo is "quite likely," but he doesn't "know the specifics of it."

In response to the question of DLC, Mike comments that Valve will continue to make content similar to what's been done with Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2, but "how that will work out on the 360, with Microsoft's process, remains to be seen."

It sounds to me like Microsoft wants Valve to charge points for its DLC, but Valve doesn't want to swing that way. While there's no guarantee we'll see a L4D demo, I'm going to tell myself there is so I'll sleep better tonight; I suggest you do the same.

M$'s control-freak attitude is a little annoying. I have Orange Box on the 360 and watch with envious eyes as TF2 PC gets update after update. While I have no proof, I suspect that if MS made it easier for valve. the 360 would also see the class updates. I imagine the 360 will see class updates when MS finds profit in it.

Anyway, that quote make me think I'll be seeing the same with L4D. Oh well...

This will probably go the way of TF2 on the 360, i.e. no support whatsoever, unless L4D reaches Portal-like levels of popularity.

Stop sounding like Valve doesn't want to give the updates to the 360, M$ just won't let that do it without money involved.

Then they should start supporting the PS3, because Sony's attitude is much more like their's.

Yeah I'll definitely be getting this for PC over 360. Not just for the fact that it's an FPS, but because if it's anything like TF2 I'll not only be enjoying dozens of awesome user content, but excellent updates & maps from Valve.

There's always DLC for Valve games. And it's always free.

If Burnout Paradise has been able to give free game-changing DLC, why wouldn't Valve be able to? If it is necessary, Valve should tell mommy EA to help them.

If they promise extra content updates like TF2 (which I repurchased for PC for said content) I will have to forgo the 360 version altogether and go straight PC.

Forget the xbox, get the PC demo out. Some of us need to see if our computers will implode in on themselves when trying to run it before release date.

@Dan CiTi:
Valve doesn't like the PS3, it's as simple as that. It's architecture is complicated as all fuck, for similar performance as the far nicer 360 (which in itself is still fucked compared to the simplicity of developing for the PC, what with it's 3 core PPC processor.
If EA offered to take Valve's DLC and 'port' it for PSN like they ported the Orange Box games to PS3 themselves then Valve would probably go along with it but they ain't about to bother doing it themselves. Better start petitioning EA.

Also L4D is gonna be fucking great. \o/

Time for Gabe Newell to take his lips off the cocks of Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer and make Valve a PS3 shop. Sony would probably help them find a way to PAY people to download additional content if they wanted to.

hpv: Why don't you get a fucking clue before talking that same tired fanboy bullshit.

The guy has openly said he doesn't like developing for consoles period. If it wasn't for EA approaching Valve The Orange Box would be PC only.

Gabe Newell and Valve have publicly criticised Microsoft's policies on several occasions that any retard can dig up by googling 'Valve'. As a company, they don't like the over-complicated dev process for the PS3 either - boo hoo cry me a river.

"Time for Gabe Newell to take his lips off the cocks of Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer and make Valve a PS3 shop."? They should stop alledgedly prefering one platform and go exclusive on another? Smells like hypocrisy.

I'm pretty sure PC will always be their lead platform since the philosophy of console manufacturers seems to be in conflict with theirs and intrudes upon their development process.

I would not touch this game on a console with it's bad gamepad controls for anything with a 9 foot pole.

Don't care.

and the port of orange box stuff sucked balls on both consoles.

I'd like to get the updates on 360, but I have the feeling that MS won't be letting them release them without gamers paying for it either. Which sucks.
