I'm sorry, cross platform stuff like this befuddles me. They're praising cross platform prowess as though the platforms themselves aren't the fundamental base problem in the equation. Get rid of these retarded platforms, unify all of gaming, and cross platform talk turns into unified platform play.
I have a soft spot for CS since it was my first big online game. I'm looking forward to a real sequel and having it finally not feel like a Half-Life mod.
Also, anyone claiming Sony 'doesn't care about platform' hasn't been paying any attention to Sony for several years.
Shadowrun was cross-platform on 360/PC, so it can be done on 360, Valve just insists that everything use Steam so they can control everything. Part of the reason I will not play any game that uses Steam, and part of the reason I'll continue buying any Valve game on 360.
It would be nice if Microsoft started getting a swift kick in the ass for being stubborn though.
xbox... silly really
Im all for cross platform communitys until i get unmercifully raped constantly by K&M snipers :/
Good idea, but a snowball has a better chance in hell than that idea has if working if only because everyone has such varying standards.
Take a look at the psn vs xbl debates. To some its ok to pay for online, to others such words are a sin and will get you cleansed with holy water on the spot if you dare say such a thing.
People are too different, that's why multiple platforms exist to begin with. Cross platform play is as united as its gonna get.
PS3 supports KB/M, so your first paragraph is stupid. Yeah, not many people might know that, but the option is still nice. Xbox 360 users on the other hand are stuck with their big ass controllers that are so big, it's bigger than my trucking face. That's right, come at me JimmyX!!!
It shouldn't because they'll be ranked matches. So if you're just as good with a controller as someone else is with a keyboard neither should be dominating.
I don't get it either, but I also hate yap-yap dogs. At least they aren't obsessed with cats around here though.
Yes, screw the guys trying to unite the players, stick with the company that insists on monopolizing the online infrastructure of every game and sticking a price tag on peer-to-peer play.
However, you could always hook up a mouse and keyboard to a PS3 and play that way. So it could work in this case.
Anyway, I'm all for cross platform games, problem is, they've trial runned this before... with unreal tourney.. i think.. it was xboxers vs. pcers... and the pc folk crushed them all the time. So, it will lead to sweet competition, and a metric fuckton of rage quits on ps3... because it takes mad skill to point and click a mouse on a PC OH YEAH I WENT THERE FUCK THE KIDS!!!!!!!!!
"[That's one] thing about the skill-based matchmaking: if you're really great with a controller, you'll be playing with people who are as good with their mouse and keyboard. It doesn't care about your input device."
I have to say that this kind of progressive attitude makes me more prone to choose Sony when it's time for me to buy a new console.
Really, Keyboard and mouse support for PS3 is a thing that people do? Do they just use keyboards and mice with really long cords and play it at a table in their living room, or do they use their PS3 at a computer monitor, pretty much killing any reason to not be a PC gamer?
But as far as their supposed "skill matching" regardless of control type...I can see that being gamed like well...every other ranking system I've seen in an online game. IE: PC players gimping themselves somehow on purpose to continue to kill people with a less apt control set up.
Correct, though technically it was ported by someone other than Valve. The only Valve games not to appear on both the PS3 and 360 is Left 4 Dead 1 & 2.
On topic, having the connectivity across the platforms is great, I just hope there is equal civility as well.
