In an interview with VG247, Valve Managing Director and co-founder Gabe Newell revealed that the company is interested in developing a Wii title. Instead of spitting out a line talking about innovation and the greatness of the Wii, Newell decided to go the obvious route. He decided to talk money.
We’re always interested [in making an MMO], but let me put it this way: I would love to do a Wii game, and how many Wii games have we shipped?
Newell was originally asked about the potential of making a Wii MMO, but as you can see, he easily pushed it aside. My guess is that we’ll see a Valve MMO in the future, possibly whenever
World of Warcraft finally starts to lose its steam within this century. I wouldn’t exactly count on something as groundbreaking as an MMO on the Wii anytime soon.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
You know, a good idea would be to let Valve handle Nintendo's online service, at least for the Wii/next Nintendo Hand-held. They could call it Steampunk or something. It could work.
But on the point of a game, Valve did hint at looking at Portal for the Wii.
Afterall, for all the Wii's shortcomings in satisfying "teh hardcore" ™ I can personally attest that FPS controls like those found in Metroid Prime 3 bear a goldmine of entertainment.
Wii MMO: Simultaneous wiggling for the masses.
Awesome!
When are you and your comedy routine going on tour?
Especially when Valve's strategy seems much more akin to Sony's than MS's or Nintendo's.
That was awfully disappointing.
On top of that, Wii will soon be indulging in Dead Rising> While Dead Rising, House of the Dead etc are old games, they are still finding an audience. Some Valve love can join that too.
@Brad, I don't recall him saying it's anything about money, he just said that he hasn't made any Wii games yet. I personally think your jumping to conclusions when your saying that it will be another mini-game comp? Plus, Valve doesn't seem like the type to get lazy and release shovelware. That just seems above the people that made portal.
